Why my ERA FIA is up for sale
I've gotten a lot of flak (most of it privately thank goodness) as to why I'm selling my ERA 289FIA. The short story is not so short in time frame wise, as I've been chasing after something "vintage" for quite awhile. As that chase got closer and closer to fruition, I've been more aggressive with the liquidation of other items (cars mostly) so that I have the much needed indoor space and additional funds for my new (old) acquisition.
I'm proud to announce, with the gracious assistance of my resident saacforum sleuths "DC-DD" a ransom has been paid and another Shelby formerly held hostage in a suburb of NYC (69 GT500 #1584) will soon grace my garage. Well loved and used by it's previous owner(s), it is starting to show it's age in the form of cracking paint ( late 70's or early 80's lacquer variety), but runs great. Chomping at the bit to get a hold of it in the next few days to start the inventory and game plan for it's rebirth.
Yours In Fords,
Bill S.

Not really sure why you would be subjected to flak for doing what you want with your own things, but congratulations on the new car.
Looking forward to seeing what you plan on doing and the final outcome.

Know exactly what you are saying.Just sold a body off restored 69 SS Chevelle,a year before that got all kinds of flak about why I would ever sell this car having owned it over 30 yrs.Other than wanting the extra space,it had not been out of storage in 10 yrs,and the Cobra certainly feeds my desire for rowing through the gears. Now have a ground up restored antique two cylinder John Deere tractor to sell again looking for more space. You will certainly enjoy that GT 500.

Bill, remember, the only people that really love you are your family. Ignore the "flakkers" -- happiness comes from within, and they are just spectators from the periphery. They really don't give a shi* about you, or your cars.

Bill, I absolutely agree with Silverback 51. Your money, your decision. I am sorry to see you sell the fia-era but then, so are you. In an ideal world you would be able to keep both. Damn shame there is such a thing as reality.

Congratulations on the new ride. Not in the same league but I wish that I never sold the 70 Boss 302 I bought in High School. It was 1972 and I thought that I was pretty cool cruising Central in Phoenix on Friday nights. Have fun.

Nice car Bill! A freind of mine that lives in Calhoun GA has one like it except it has a black interior. His is a 4-speed. I used to have a 70 Grabber Blue GT 350. They are fun cars. Mark

Very Nice Bill.....I just thought you were a bit like me and liked the hunt or build vs owning for a long time. Seems I sell mine after a year or two. Heck had this one for 18 months now and already thinking of something else like GT40 again or?......

I say, It's nobodys dam business why you want to sell. If they keep sticking their nose in your business, I say, cut it off.
Of course that is just my opinion and that does not mean squat.

Just don't sell the GT500 to send your kids to college. They'll just have to go to community college or work their way through college.

Doug,
Life brings highs and lows, the high of the purchase was negated after a long call with Josh Sunday night

You don't own anyone any explanations. Congratulations on doing what you decide to do and don't look back. Hope the health issues are only a passing inconvenience.

Bill the Shelby looks awesome. Wish I could swing your FIA right now but the reality is I can't. I hope to upgrade from my B&B at some point to an ERA or maybe a Backdraft. I also dream of a GT40, all I really need to do is win the Lottery.
To me the chase is almost as much fun as having the car.

Bill,
I hope the health issues are not too serious!
I took a lot of flak for selling off my Everett-Morrison and 66 Mustang to help finance the purchase of my new toy - 1966 Shelby GTH.
Other than me, the only other person who was happy was my insurance agent
