Superformance & ERA 15" rims & others?

Can these pin drive 15" rims (5 or 6 pin) from different mfg.'s ie- Superformance, era, csx, inter change with each other? Or as a rule; are they required to be used on org. hubs from each mfg.? As a rook to pin drive/hub set up's, thought I would ask.%/
Thanks:

I will speak only to the true, 6 pin drive system from ERA, since that is what I have. They use a different backspacing on the front wheels (ie, not original Cobra backspacing), so "no" you can't use them elsewhere without modifications. And I'm not even sure if you can get a 6 pin system from anybody but the "big three" (ERA, CSX, KMS).

Is ERA now making aluminum bodied cars?Unless they are I would have to place ERA behind CSX and KMC as the best Fiberglass car for show and FFR the best race cars.(FFR spec racer that is).
Just saying.;)

Uhhh, ok... and that has what to do with the OP's post?:p But it did occur to me that one of the Superformance FIAs has 6 pins, I think.

Seeing that Hi Tech South Africa cast and machine their OWN uprights and the spllned hubs for the 289 roadster as well as their OWN six pin hub for the FIA, possibly Superformance should get a mention. Original AC factory drawings used.
To answer the question tho`,All the car manufacturers use the same wheels be it 5 or 6 pin and it depends on what upright is chosen to determine what hub adaptor is reqd.
Take a look at Vintage or Trigo websites to see their variations of adaptors and wheels available.
PS ENGINEERING can make same style wheels with different offsets if so required. You don`t mention what car you have.

Ross

Is Phil at PSE still making wheels?

LMH 01-21-2012 11:59 PM

Hey Ross
A little off topic but will the hubs from Hi Tech SA fit hub carriers on original cars? Are they a copy of original stuff?

Phil made a set of wheels for my ERA FIA about a year ago ... best bet is to give him a call.

Here is a link to his web page:

Sry, I have just purchased a ERA 427, & not real happy w/tire selection avalible on15's. Thinking about changing to 17's

TButtrick 01-22-2012 05:17 AM

There is good information on the Vintage Wheels tech pages on backspacing and such. Superformance uses the original six pin design which are Vintage Wheels. If you had an orignal car with six pin, (6pin x 4.25)their wheels bolt right up. Same six pin pattern. They also have adapters to bolt up to 5 lug rotors and 5 on 4.5 ,5 on 4.75 patterns. Vintage Wheels makes a great knock-off, knock-off. :)

The point being that other replica manufacturers
have used the six pin wheels including the out of production Contemporary.
Just pointing out that ERA is not the only company that has upgraded their builds over the years.
It's nice that you own an ERA but please, don't try to put them in the same league with Shelby and Kirkham.

OK, what 427 cars can you buy, that are built today, that have 6 pin hubs besides the "big three?"

I think ERA is the only other kit car you can buy with 6 pin hubs other than the "big two". Shelby America and Kirkham are replicas. The rest are kits cars.

I think you're right. ;) But a twitch snare for ol' Racer X #99 could always provide some amusement... providing he sticks his head in it.

WOW

The way u guys argue about who's who in roadster mfg's. Mabe u should just get married:JEKYLHYDE Each mfg. has their strong points; otherwise they wouldn't be selling roadsters very long. FFR, ERA, CSX, SPF,Kirkam, etc., there all good. I started out in high school in the 53rd CSX/260cid AC ever built, also a 64/289 slabside, 66/427 sideoiler & a 68/428 AC. not to mention others like the GT350 & 500's, 300 SEL's, Healeys & Jags. My dear friends old man was a collector. Yes, I had a blessed time as a youth! My 2nd car owned, was a 66/GT 350. Paid $1,500, sold it in pieces, what a fool!! I loved them all, but I never got over the AC's. Point being, if you own any roadster from almost any mfg. you are truly blessed in this world:MECOOL: Of course if the above banter is jus between friends, EXCUSE ME:LOL: btw thanks for the info on the diff. in mfg. rims:D

You're absolutely right. The FFR boys should just be happy with what they have and not take this stuff so seriously.

TButtrick 01-22-2012 10:52 AM

This thread has absolutely nothing to do with what car is better than the other. It's about whether your car could be taken seriously with more than one rollbar.
