Mine is the black powder coated steel piece provided by ERA. I would post a picture, but you can't see anything with the plate on.

Iowa is one state that requires a front plate..

I used a stainless steel bracket from Finish Line. It mounts behind the chrome light on the trunk. You could paint it black. I don't think it would look right, though, sandwiched between the chrome and the body. Unless your car is black. JMO.

The internet says 31 states require them. Hey Jeff those rear ones you see don't they kick the plate out to obstruct the light or is that the idea? Originally they just went through the trunk lid with a couple of screws, you're always gonna need a plate so I figured just put the holes through.

Default Remote Control Licence Plate Frame

You might try rpidesigns.com They have a "Remote Control Retractable Front Licence Plate Frame # C6PRLF" $150.00 for vettes. That would fit a AC front w/out much trouble. Perhaps under the oil cooler, or other location to suit your needs. Worth a look anyway

Smile tag bracket

I have made 6 or 7 out of stainless, each a little different. Several I welded stainless angle to make the bracket, the last one I made was last week. I made it out of .09" stainless plate and bend it on the box pan I bought last summer.
It was fast and easy.

Dwight

This is one of the first I made for my Cobra, welded stainless angle and polished it.

I simply used a bar of alum 1"x1/2" pretty darned solid. Almost free (scraps) and simple. If there's enough trauma to break the mount, the rest of the cxar is broken, too.

I'm pretty sure my home state of Oregon requires a front plate. I don't have one though. I think it's one of those laws that they don't enforce with any regularity.

When I was a punk teenager I got 3 no front plate tickets in 3 straight days from the same cop. I was on my way to school each time. Sure as S@^%, the cop was there on the 4th day but by that time I mounted the front plate in the right spot instead of just sitting on my dash.

I've seen plenty of cops on the road while driving my cobra but haven't got a ticket for no front plate.

Hawaii says you need one in front but doesn't enforce it. I put a black 1" x 3"
black grill in the front and hung my plate on back side with a couple of stainless
key rings on the top - it blows back when moving at which point you can't see it and it does not restrict the air flow to the radiator.

Many Illinois villages and towns are finding that cars not displaying a front plate are a great source of easy income for them. (that along with the red light camera's which also make a fortune) They send their public service “pretend police” out to cruise parking lots to ticket cars for plate viloations. They even cruise private business parking lots like where I work, but they have no juristiction there. It's an easy $75.00 payday for them because it's just a "send in the money" type of ticket. If you don't put the plate on after being tagged, they will get you again...
I've considered creating a official looking ticket form and getting a PO Box and start handing out tickets myself...I'd start in the Police & Fire department parking lots with all their corvettes and such without front plates.
