How do I remove the filter off of there, does it just unscrew?

Yep, just unscrew the canister and there is a replacable fuel filter in it,if your parts store doesn't have the filter, you can get one from any of the Mustang parts suppliers...........
even before doing that,I'd dis-connect the fuel line from the carb and have someone crank over the engine and see it any fuel is being pumped to the carb, very easy/quick check........

BTW: I ran a rebuilt original style pump like yours on my 65 fastback for 10+ years with no problems, only reason I changed to a newer style fuel pump was I put a Canton road race pan on the motor and because the canister hangs down pretty low,I could not bolt up the oil pan, had to change fuel pumps to use the road race pan, but still have that fuel pump in a box for future use should the need arise....

Thanks for the info, David. I'm hoping it's just the filter.
