T-shirt with tire read imprint.

Hi all. In the early years of Shelby American, Peter Brock and Shelby issued a tee shirt with and imprint of a Goodyear Blue Streak racing tire tread on the back. Story has it that Brock coated a tire tread with black shoe polish, rolled it over some poster paper, took it to a tee shirt shop and had the shirts printed.

So is it time to create a modern version of this tee shirt?

Would someone be willing to coat and run a new Goodyear billboard over a piece of poster paper, image it and maybe one of our forum members who have good access to a tee shirt shop, we could have some cool shirts.

Copyright infringement? I don't know.

Cheers
Greg

You come up with the design and I'll make them.

Don't let me design anything! I can't even spell tread.

Anyhow, how about the tread pattern running up the back (probably can't use the Goodyear name) with some Cobra image on the front, perhaps a cartoon characture showing big billoards.

Group design in session.

If I had billboards I'd do it, still wouldn't mind having a T like that.

Silverback51 03-15-2012 03:16 PM

Yep, I will buy one or two.

Racer_X 03-15-2012 03:46 PM

I'd probably pop for 2 shirts

I can come in below these prices for a one side print. I can do even better if we did bigger quantities of the same colors instead of "one of's"

I'm figuring Dwight would be the Alabama contact again.

If there is a point man ( my427cobra hint hint) and we don't have to do 27,000 separate mailings, I can come in cheaper yet.

John,

What do you use to make your screens? I.E. what file format would work that you could import that you could then make the screen from. Could you import a PDF, JPG or what-ever file, save it to your computer in the file format that you use and then edit it to make your screen?

We can use jpg. pdf. ai. vector. almost anything. I'd have to check with the REAL boss when she gets home .

I'd have to talk to her to see if she would want to do individual orders again It would be much easier for us and cheaper for the guys to put them into several central locations in lots. The individual shipping for the Cobra shirts ended up being almost as much as the shirt for some guys.

John,
The PDF file at Roger Kraus Racing can be saved. Then upload it into the computer and edit the file.

I would like a couple as well,

mickmate 03-15-2012 06:39 PM

I have a couple of Goodyears kicking around. We also have a scanning outfit locally that can handle larger sizes. I think I just saw some good pics of those shirts, I'll take a look.

my427cobra 03-15-2012 07:13 PM

OK I'm back. Looks like there's some interest.

The conceptual idea I had was to show the tire tread as if it rolled up the back of the shirt from the bottom of the tail of the shirt to the shirt collar. Maybe something on the front - maybe the Club Cobra logo?????
Basic white I think as it would show the tread and logo the best.

Now we need to find someone to coat the tread of one of their Goodyear Eagle billboards with shoe polish or paint and roll it over some poster paper so we can image it for the tee shirt shop.

I'd be willing to be the point on this, take the orders, mail the tees to the customers etc.

I don't want to make anything on these but if you all think its a good idea, then maybe a $5.00 premium collected for a charity like Wounded Warriors.

I'll contact our teeshirt expert on this thred to get the basics.

Cheers

Thanks CobraDan. Where did that image come from? I'm not enough of an expert to recognize the tread patterns, but I don't think the Goodyear Eagle billboard tire is one of them.

Still waiting for the right tread image.

Cheers
Greg
