Default MSD Advance Spring Broken

I checked the timing today and got some odd numbers. Come to find out one of the advance springs (light weight silver) was broken where it mounts to the stud. Any thoughts?

Jeff,

Where did the spring break? Halfway through the hook, or where the hook becomes the spring coils?

The first would be a lack of lubricant on the pins, the second would be spring failure.

I had one break a few years ago-broke right were the curve was on the post. No real reason why? I figure it had about 10-12k on the spring, I broke the heavy/thick silver one that comes pre-installed. I was running one blue/silver.
