The Nassau Cobra of '62--John Everly?
I heard of the Everly Bros., and one may have had a Cobra but I think their names are Don and Phil. Anyway, when a guy showed up with a racing Cobra named John Everly at nassau in '62, I wonder if that was a Holman & Moody prepped car like Augie Pabst's Cobra. I always wonder if Shelby was ticked that, of the three Cobras at that event, only one was prepped by him.
I since found out it is CSX2011 and am quoting from the RM auction site:
"The car presented here is the first Cobra racing car sold to the public and the third of three factory competition Cobras. It is a very early example indeed. Ordered red with a black interior, it was shipped to Los Angeles, California and sold to one Mr. John A. Everly of Winfield, Kansas in October 1962. Mr. Everly apparently traded in his 1954 Ferrari roadster for a ‘Shelby AC Cobra’, which he outfitted with front and rear anti-sway bars, a roll bar, and a full racing windscreen. In addition, the car received a long-range fuel tank, Flamethrower ignition, driver’s seat belt, shoulder harness, and Goodyear T-4 racing tires. Finally, oblong ‘Shelby-AC-Cobra’ badges, T-handle hood latches, and 5 1/2 inch-wide painted wire wheels were added."
It sold for $1,732,500 at their 2008 auction. I wasn't aware that small blocks were going for so much way back then...
