Lead Hammer
How long did your lead hammer last? When I received my new lead hammer , I thought it felt very soft for what it was intended. I have used it minimally and never completely tightened a spinner until yesterday. With the damage to the hammer, I doubt it will last for two complete four wheel tightenings.

I've had mine for years. Granted I don't take the wheels off everyday but I've used it at least a hundred times. There's some flaring on the ends but it's in pretty good shape.

Not sure what yours is made of, but it should last longer than that.
I've posted this before, but here's an inexpensive place to pick up a lead hammer or two for you knock-off guys:
Cook Hammer Company
I bought mine at my local Fastenal tool supply. They have other distributors listed on the site, or you can order online.
For about $25, it's the best deal I could find. And it has held up well.

Lead hammers are soft (and that's a good thing...). I've got one that's easily ten years old and hardly recognizable as a hammer - but it still works. 
Generally, we use a composite hammer to tighten the wing nuts. For loosening, if the composite doesn't do the job, we use the lead hammer. |

Mine from Cobra Valley is 4+ years old and I have the wheels off a minumum of 3 times a year.
If you think you are only going to get a few more uses out of yours, then you may be doing something wrong.

Here it is after tightening 1 spinner. As I said, It felt exceptionally soft when I got it. It either came from Trigo or Vintage. I'll have to go back and see. It doesn't seem that it may have had the correct lead content %.  |

That's a little more flared/grooved than mine but not a lot more. You probably just got a softy! (lol)

Check out the one from American Hammer. The company owner occasionally checks in on ClubCobra. I've had mine for a couple of years and it looks MUCH better than the one shown by the OP. Besides, American Hammer will recast it any time you need it done for about $20.

I think the OP's hammer was made out of aerated lead. Much softer than dense lead; lighter too. |

I was eating strawberry shortcake at the time... with extra whipped cream. I think Silverback and I have the same hammer. It's called the "Mother Thumper" and I've used it for probably 50 wheel removals/replaces and it still looks pretty new. |
