Original stock hp figures for Cobras were ridiculous. Beyond stock figures it's beyond ridiculous and unnecessary IMHO. It's just for bragging rights.

Most people don't even realize how much power 350 hp is in a 289 car moreless 425hp is in a 2400 lb 427 street car.

My Cobra gets my respect every time I drive it and it's got only 502hp. Thats more than enough for me.

That exactly the point I was trying to get across in a similar thread. Everybody likes big numbers when talking horse power .There has got to be a point were too much is just too much, regardless of if you or your car can handle it.
