Default FIA wheels on 427

I noticed in my "Shelby Cobra 50 Years" book that some of the early 427s had FIA wheels. I sort of like the look and am considering using these wheels. The folks at ERA told me it's no problem. Any experience/photos/opinions on this? The car will be Ferrari Blu Pozzi (dark non-metallic blue) with no stripe and Avons. Thanks.

Lippy - if I were buying my wheels today I think I would go with the FIA wheels. Only problem is that I don't think Vintage makes the FIA style so you will probably have to go with Trigo. I was very satisfied with Bob at Vintage and they have a great product. But, I think the FIA wheels on the 427 car look great and they are something a little out of the ordinary.

I like the FIA's on 427's. As said, it's a little different looking than everyone elses but still vintage.

Lippy - do it, mate. Go with the FIA wheels. They look great; they're period correct, and it makes the car subtly (a Cobra?) stand out as something just a little different from the masses.
Very nice car ERA Chas! Did you end up selling it?
Cheers,
Glen

FWIW, when I purchased CSX 3121 (11/1969), it was on FIA wheels. I really wanted the typical 7.5/9.5 Halibrands, and eventually traded all four FIA wheels for two 9.5s, since I had already scrounged a pair of 7.5s.

CSX3165 had FIA wheels on it, at SAAC-37.

CSX3354 beside it had (polished) Sunburst wheels.

I like them and the look. I have noticed that they seem a little thick on the rear hubs as in the spinner nut hangs off the end of the spindle. I'm sure they are fine with plenty of thread engagement. We do have some spinner nuts available that seat deeper in the wheel for better engagement if needed. Karl used them on his car too.

So I think I have narrowed down my options pretty significantly:
- 427 body in Ferrari Nero (plain black)
- Undercar exhaust exiting ahead of rear wheels
- No hood scoop or stripe
- Chrome roll bar
- Either black quick jacks or chrome bumperettes

But I'm still going back and forth on the wheels and can't decide between the FIAs and the Halibrands, but with unfinished centers like this photo. What do you think?
