James Tate is a horse's ass.
3002?????????????

zots 08-27-2012 06:06 PM

...and I touched (drooled on) all of them at Laguna Seca....

Interesting! I was told by someone that I thought was an authority that the race 427s had the lip on the rear fenders. I appears not so, based on CSX 3017, that has no rear lips. I am now wondering when did the rear fender lip start? With the 4000 series?

Added:
That can't be because I see a picture of CSX 3155 that has the fender lips.

Yep, that's how you recognize a replica!

Just kidding, full comp cars did not have the lip. The lip was added to SC's as street use would most likely add more suspension travel with the possibility of tire rub.

He doesn't list 3002, 2131 or 2142? Did his mother raise him wrong?!

I think CSX2287 the Daytona prototype car should be on the list, as well as CSX2601 the world champion.

DougD 08-28-2012 06:05 AM

If I was compiling the list, it would have to include CSX4068. 'Cause it's the one I am lucky enough to own!:3DSMILE:

It looks like this is where Tate came up with the list.

What about CSX 3035?

Edit: and CSX 2196 "Flip Top"

If you look at this photo, you'll see them both ways. With and without a lip on the rear fender.

CSX4000 is the "original clone?" Actually, Shelby was a little late to the clone party.

You'd think, huh?

Those MSN articles are somethin else.
There's one today about 'End of the World' must have cars. Like a 911...%/

zots 08-28-2012 11:27 AM

Walking along the Cobra pit at the Monterey Classics Cobra Reunion races at Laguna Seca, there must have been about 50 original Cobras...and probably about 50 different rear/front fender configurations!

Dangerous Doug 08-28-2012 02:33 PM

Okay, did anyone else notice that CSX2000 had a small dent on the upper lip of the front snout while it was on display at Laguna Seca? It looked like it had been rolled into a square post corner.

Somewhere there is a guy thinking, "I can't believe I dented the very first Cobra..."

zots 08-28-2012 05:35 PM

I was there when they were rolling the CSX2000 into position on Wednesday...I don't remember seeing any dent; however, it was gone from the display for some time during the weekend.

While possibly true, I think you boys over at Provo are a little too modest!

There is Larry Ellison's billet cobra that should be on a list of top 10, as well as possibly a Copper and Bronze one too IMHO

Looks like someone has the keys to the Kingdom ! ;)

Dangerous Doug 08-28-2012 10:53 PM

Uhhhh, I dunno... He has the keys... His hand is gesturing right AT the dent I spotted... (Look closely on the snout lip just above the grill third vertical from the right.) Is this the man behind the dent???

We may never know.
