Default Watkins Glen lap times

I have a friend who is an avid racer and was telling me that he thought the FFR Cobras were churning out better track times than the more expensive models. I didn't understand this. I thought it may be more driver related. I don't understand why a better engineered car would be slower. Can someone explain this to me. My friend has 3 atom's which he races regularly and wins most of the time. We live in the NE so he frequents Watkins Glen quite often

better/faster cars do not equal fast lap times........the car is only one part of the total package, driver is the other part............
case in point:
I was at our local road course track a few years ago testing my car after some changes,it was open to the public....there was a guy that drove his Honda Civic Sport model there with his wife, it was bone stock except for some good brakes pads and tires....he was amazingly fast, not only did he pass a Z06 one session, the next session he passed the Z06 and within 6 or 7 laps, he LAPPED the Z06.......it was all driver, with equal drivers there is no way the Honda would pass a Z06!!!!!!!!
The FFR Challenge cars are very fast and they have all of 225 horse power!!!!!!!!

More expensive doesn't necessarily mean better engineered.

FFR has been continuously developing better frames, and suspension set ups, using driver feedback, from the fellows that race and test them regularly on the track. Dave Smith also races, so he can feel what is needed to improve them.. They have come a long way since the first models were introduced.

No doubt though, drivers skills are also a big factor.

Dave Kirkham has continuosly worked on the design of his suspension. They race their cars as well. I know the tolerances are very close on the Kirkhams
