Default California Legacy License Plate program

Legislation introduced the California Legacy License Plate program offering vehicle owners the opportunity to purchase replicas of California license plates similar to those issued in the 1950's, 1960's, and 1970's. The program requires a minimum of 7,500 pre-paid applications prior to January 1, 2015.

A strange program with 7,500 pre-order minimum by January 1, 2015, with no plates issued until that date but they want your money when your order is submitted.

Anyway, the 60's plate is, of course, black with yellow lettering.

Just passing along is case there is interest.

You likely won't be able to register a replica or kit in CA by then(not so far fetched sarcasm). I know it's not legal but I've seen a number of cars run with replica plates. I saw a kit in a Honda with black lettered plates to match his car. Actually looked really nice. I have a set of Yellow lettered that I ran in CA.

From the CA DMV website:

Q15: Will the DMV wait until January 1, 2015 to implement the program even if the minimum is reached before that date?
A: No. Once the required minimum is reached, implementation of the program will go into development.

Q16: How long after the program is implemented will I receive the plates I have pre-ordered?
A: Approximately 9-12 months.

So even after they receive 7,500 deposits, it will still take another 9-12 months to get the program implemented and into production. The prisoners must have unionized.

Someone wake me when they receive 7,500 pre-orders. Then I will add 9 months to that date before I complete an application.

I think I will just run the one that I have until they actually figure the whole thing out.
