A search of the net will show that the test was faulty to some degree but still there are plusses and minuses with each filter type and it depends on the environment you drive in (very dusty or not) the life you expect from your engine 50 000 miles or 150 000 miles and how important those extra 15 hp are when making your choice - just make sure that choice is well informed
Interesting results on flow when filters were dirty..K&N flowing less when dirty. Not sure what that means in the real world however.

I dyno'd the car three ways, all the same day, same session;

1) old 1 3/4" tall oval K&N filter, stock lid.

2) new setup 2 1/2" tall oval K&N filter, modified lid.

3) no air cleaner at all.

The new setup did 8 more HP than with no air cleaner and 14 more HP than the 1 3/4" tall filter with the stock lid.

I get that you cut the filter lid to add an additional filter but how did you increase the height from 1 3/4" to 2 1/2"?

Depends on the length and width you want

Sorry, the oval filter wasn't a K&N. I went back to a previous post I made. It's a S&B filter, 2.25" tall, 20 5/8" X 9 ¾" OD. part# W-2250-01. Jegs sells them for $59.95.

I went through several combos before settling on this setup.
