Loud pipes and the man .....
Do Cobra owners get hassled much by the man for loud pipes? Or is it like Harleys .... no real issue?

No, I get pulled over a decent bit, but never for misbehaving and they have never even mentioned the pipes. Invariably, it is an older officer, usually the state police (they tend to be a "cut above"), and they just want to look at the car. They are very friendly and I really don't mind being stopped. I do note that they never pull me over on a crowded interstate, or the like -- it's always on a safe, slow side road.

Not around here, or in any of the other states I've driven in for that matter.

Yup. That is why I am working on a dual system. Using electric cutouts and a quiet under car exhaust system with the side pipes. Quiet as a Cadillac then with the flip of a switch Rock and Roll baby!

It depends on where you are. Here in Colorado Springs, the local PD will write a Harley a ticket in a second. I once got a noise ticket for starting my Harley in my garage!
But I'v never been stopped in the Roadster for that.

My sidepipes are at the shop now getting 3" mufflers that pass the tennis ball test.
Should I get glass or steel packing or none at all? Our trips are all short and usually less than an hour.
Just got access to 100 octane aviation fuel so I can "neutralize" the ethanol free 87 octane my neighbor put in by accident. Gotta burn that stuff up and get good gas going through soon..

Not a problem in my corner of California. I've never been harrassed in any way by the local authorities or CHP.
That includes:
The time near Marin when I realized I'd have to bolt to catch my exit off the freeway so I dropped it down a gear and started to open it up. Better sense got hold of me, and a glance to my left revealed a motorcycle CHP in the commuter lane--looking directly at me.
I gave him a big smile, upshifted, and then took the subsequent exit without the racing heroics.
And:
Testing my carb adjustments one night, I went through town and would stuff my foot into it momentarily to see if I'd adjusted out the bog. Within moments I'd attracted the attention of the local police, who followed me briefly but passed by when I pulled over to tell them what I was up to. After that, I figured I should go home and call it a night.

3 inch mufflers will be loud. Invest in good earplugs

not sure about the tennis ball test but Not in Oklahoma either. Although in Broken Arrow a suburb of Tulsa I will ocassionally have a female officer tail me until I reach the county line. I think she would like to stop me but hasn't found a reason yet. She apears to be a babe so i wouldn't mind if she wanted to frisk me!

In Virginia: 10 years and 63,000 miles - haven't been stopped for noise yet. 1061 has Stainless Specialties 3" side pipes. It is loud. I get lots of big grins and thumbs up from local and state police.

Never got in trouble with the police, but was told that I can't run autocross at some venues due to the noise. The tracks that I couldn't go to were close to housing so it was understandable. The funny thing was that 2 cobras and 1 VW rabbit were told not to race next time, only the VW owner complained and his car made mine seem subtle!

When the pipes are off the car, and sitting on the floor, you can roll a tennis ball through them without the ball getting stuck. There's the "tennis ball" test, the "baseball" test, and then there's the coveted "bowling ball" test....

I'm never hassled by police here in the SF Bay Area.
But then again, rolling it in and out of the garage doesn't really make much noise, except for the squeak of the tires being turned.

No problems for me as well, but the noise has me driving a little more "safe and sane" then I sometime want to, I know this thimg can be heard a mile away and there is no question who is making the noise, so its no longer a matter of just being out of sight when you want a little adrenaline rush.
