HELP! Finding 8.5mm Wire Loom, OEM Style
One of my valve cover mounted wire looms broke. It looks like the original style that came on Mustangs and Falcons, but those were for 6-7mm wire and not modern 8.5mm wire. The separator/loom slot slides onto valve cover.
I bought the OEM version, heated it gently with a heat gun, and then slowly pushed the wire into the slot. The wires just do not fit well...they kind of just sit on top of the slot.

The one that broke is actually for 8-8.5mm wire and the wires "pop" into the slot when pushed. Any idea where I can find these? I appreciate your help.

Here is a picture...broken 8.5mm on the left and OEM replacement from ebay on the right:

I run 8.5mm MSD ignition wires on my Boss 302 and on my Cobra. The wire separators are a Ford part which are designed for the large ignition wires. They come in a package of 4, part # B8Q-12297-A. I bought these 10yrs ago and never had one break yet.Hope this helps,
 Rick

 | Thanks Rick...so they really fit 8.5mm MSD wires without any coaxing, huh? I did not see the package of 4 when I just did a search. I will continue to look. It looks like Scott Drake AND CJ PP carries them.. I might just call CJ and ask them directly.

Will keep you posted...Nick

I scrounged around the local junkyards and scavenged some from various Ford engines. I found out that the wire seperators on later engines with Duraspark ignition were a bit larger than the earlier seperators. Duraspark wires were 8.0 mm.
I took one down to our local Ford dealership and asked the parts man if they had any and he didn't even know what they were.

I know...no one at NAPA or any other nationwide chain had a clue.

In a few years the majority of the parts guys wont know what a "Distributor" WAS! They'll think that's where their parts come from. LOL

Use a small round file and make what you have big enough for your wires. Quick, and free.

You might try Finishline. They have them, but don't give the wire size. At least you don't have to wander on Ebay to get a few to play with...Finish Line Accessories

No problem, hope this works for you. It's nice to return a favour. Two years ago you helped me with the tail light reflectors. You have one of the nicest Cobra that I've seen over the years. Rick

Summit Racing has a wide variety of looms, OEM and aftermarket Ford Racing both. Good luck! |

the tabs probably already have holes in them so you won't be modifying anything but the separators

I used Mr. Gasket wire looms ( discarded chrome arms) and trimmed them to accommodate the 8.5mm MSD wires. Kind of like FWB did. Worked great. Rather than riveting them I used small s/s screws and nuts (easier to get off) if you break one. It worked great if you can't find them anywhere else. |

I just called Scott Drake, and they said the correct Part # is B6AB8Q-12297-KA
Summit Racing carries them for $11.95....4 pieces.

Thanks again. I hope this thread can help others who hit the same road block.

I bought those from Summit as well but what I did was take my propane torch and heated up a drill bit that was a "shade" larger than my spark plug wire sockets and enlarged them that way. I couldn't find my round file at the time.
In fact if I am drilling through carpet (shifter ring etc) I will take a nail and heat it up with the torch and push it thru the holes in the ring and carpet. Doesn't muck up your carpet when you are drilling or running a self taping screw.
