Well done, Evan...looks great.

WOW!!! Thanks for the pic's. Very nice car indeed! Are you sure you drive that thing? The underside is way too clean..

REAL 1 05-05-2013 02:13 PM

7095 miles.

rpatton3 05-05-2013 08:08 PM

How much clearance do you need for the cool lift?
What brand is it?

Thanks.

Jamo 05-06-2013 12:24 AM

Still looks ok, Evan. Not the worst I've ever seen. ;)

Tutosnake 05-06-2013 05:18 AM

Vader lives!! Sweet engine.

Rick Parker 05-06-2013 09:23 AM

Nice job Evan...question: Does doing this move the seat forward to impact legroom for 6 footer?

REAL 1 05-06-2013 09:55 AM

rpatton3: I have roughly 13ft high ceilings. I think you can get away with 10 feet. The lift is an older model Rotary. The new ones are larger but I don't think there is a difference in height. Call any dealer and they will tell you exactly what height you will need.

Jamo: Yeah, I know I was a little embarrassed to post those pics. I've done the best I could with it.... what can I say? If it gets any worse it's off for a donation to Cars for Kids.

Tuto: Your not far off. Her name is "Christine". Wife walks past holding a crucifix. She refuses to ride in her. There is a postive side to that. :D

Rick: I will measure the depth difference between the Optima Reds and these batteries. I think there is a 4- 5" difference in depth. I will meaure tonight and let you know.

The batteries I used are 12v Interstate Group 51 gels run in parallel. They have pencil post terminals so you will have to get terminal clamps for a Prius and get 2 extra positive terminal clamps to cut down so they will clamp the negative post. You can source the caps and Rebat decals from Billy Andrews at HRE in Long Island. He will also sell you the battery tray and tie downs.

What an awesome set-up! I'm in the process of building my garage and I hope to have the same layout as you to include the lift. Haven't decided what to call the garage yet but the list has been narrowed to:
-The Gym, so I can say "Honey, I'm going to the gym!"
-The TOC, it's an Army thing (Tactical Operations Center), but we're thinking of deviating TOC into something else.
-The Dog House.....self-explanatory

I'm getting very close to finishing my car so your photos are great reference points, especially with the 2x4 carbs and the oil puke tank. I would be interested in seeing more pics of how you transformed the battery.

dcdoug 05-06-2013 01:03 PM

Evan, all that work on the Rebat battery (and giving up a bit of leg room) and you aren't using clear hoses on your puke tank? And is that a red distributor cap? %/ :p

I thought you were more of a stickler for originality.

Cap is not red. Dark Maroon. Original FoMoCo.

Clear hoses on puke tank? Really? Hmmm. Learn something every day. Post pics of original with clear hoses. When I've recovered from this project I'll move on to that one.

Tuto: Never thought of that but then where would my girlfriend sit?;)

MY girlfriend shares the driver's seat

Huh, I always thought the distributor caps were black

Here is a thread that discusses the clear puke tank tubes and a picture of a CSX 4000 car with them, but I can't seem to find a 3000 car with them. I'm sure Nick will step in with a pic.....

If you go the clear route, get the heat rated ones from McMaster, not "whatever your local hardware store has...." ;)
