Default Makes You Want to Thank Carroll Shelby All Over Again

OK…I know this isn’t “Club Cheeta”, and it’s a Chebby based vehicle, which would ordinarily make it in unfriendly territory here, but the history behind this “barn find” and the whole Cheetah project makes for an interesting read. Makes you want to thank the Lord and Carroll Shelby that the Cobra didn’t have the same fate.

Always liked this little lightweight big time but the Cobra won out. There was a hot rodder we used to see at the local drag strip with one of these it was alcohol injected big block Chevy powered.Watching that thing launch was like the days of the Wild Fuel Altereds. They are a bear to climb into especially with fire suit and helmet on.

Yeah I read that on Hemmings too. Interesting how the super Cheetah was going to be a production model. I met Thomas a few times and he really wouldn't talk much at the time about the Cheetah. If there was no fire I think things might have turned out differently.

Well the wheels are added by the current owner. It wasn't the fire that put Bill Thomas out of the Cheetah business it was the withdrawal of Chevrolet's support.
By the way a small block Cheetah in full road racing configuration turned 134 mph in 10:20 at the drags in 1964.
