How far was his exhaust from the body? Some of the ones that I have seen were only 1/4" or closer. Mine were over 1/2" maybe even closter to 3/4". Does not look as good to have that big gap. But I did not worry about the paint burning or blistering.
This is not just on fiberglass cars either. Painted metal cars can/will have the same issue.
