US Top Gear has a Cobra
Has anyone seen the ads for the new season of the US Top Gear? They have a Cobra on the preview...
Is it real or is it Memorex? And please, whatever, don't turn this in to a your Cobra is more not real than mine discussion. |
US Top Gear is a horribly executed replica of the original Top Gear from UK.
I find it virtually unwatchable. |

Same here. I liked the one from the UK but don't watch this one at all. I am not sure if it is true but I heard the guys on the UK one actually didn't like each other and that made the show more interesting.

try watching the idiots that did the ozzy version(way off topic my bad)...doc

The all new season is really gonna be awesome..i'd love to see the Cobra preview in that..when it is going to be aired on BBC.
|
Not close to the UK version..........The boys do love to wave the Union Jack ( rightly so ) and there are some references that only a Brit would pick up on. They all seem to be good car handlers by their power slide turns. The USA version needs new talent.
|
This going to sound like a total stuck-up snob but the UK version has sports car guys while the US version has NASCAR hot rodders. That's my take on it anyway.

I am looking forward to the new season and if they finally have a Cobra, even better. At first I complained that the US Top gear was so much worse than the UK version, then I just stopped comparing them. Like comparing the original "Gone in 60 Seconds" with the newer version, they are totally different and comparisons just don't work.

The US show is ok. It takes a while to get used to the characters. No, I don't like it nearly as much and no, I don't go looking for it, but I watch it once in a while. What really is bogus about it is they even copy the fake adventures scene-for-scene. What's the point of that?

The Cobra for US Top Gear has always been in the intro. I'm not sure what manufacturer it is.

UK Top Gear is still infinitely better. :D |

Yes, I know. I've met him and have watched him drive at track events. The sport he races (or raced ) in doesn't make him an expert on sports cars though. In my prior posting, I'm referring to the premis of the show, not one particular host. Larry |
Premise of Top Gear:
A show aimed at men, with male banter a plenty, that can be watched by the rest of the family, and it features cars...... a bit. Clarkeson says anything to get an audience smirking, especially when its not PC, and whilst he can thrash a car, he knows sweet FA as soon as the hood/bonnet goes up. The other guys are his Laurel and Hardy stooges. They have written motoring columns before and worked in related areas. But its sold primarily as 3 quintessential English duffers poncing around around in cars most will never be able to own, let alone drive. The cars are just a backdrop for the banter. Own up - can anyone actually remember anythig about any of the cars, expect when they've been trashed? I quite like it, but great car show....it aint! |
My wife actually likes Top Gear. She likes the UK version better (as do I). I DVR both and she doesn't want me to watch it unless she's here (and that applies to both). I like the cars (some are better than others). And she likes the goofy stuff they do - and sometimes it is amusing (and sometimes really funny.)
It's entertainment. Don't try to make it more than it is. |

US version sucks, but every now and then a story is ok...like the fun with some of my client's tractors, but generally it sucks.
Original is mucho muy goodo as entertainment, not bad as a car show. Wife loves it. |

U.S. Version is painful to watch.

Does the US version even have Stig any more? I don't seem to remember them doing real car reviews any more, just the goofy stuff to see who can get from Death Valley to Vegas across 4-wheel drive trails. Those kinds of things can be amusing (the British version does it well) but it's become the predominant part of the US show. I give the Brit version a B+ and the US version a C/C-. Thank goodness the US version is only an hour and with the DVR has lots of commercials that can be skipped so the pain doesn't last too long.
