Should I put my Unique with a 427 side oiler on Ebay?
Good Morning Club Cobra family,
I have an honest question. I hate Ebay because of all the scammers and games that people play, but, I really need to sell my Unique with a 427 side oiler before the snow starts flying here in Northern Indiana.
I have had it up for sale in our classifieds for a month and haven't sold it yet which has really surprised me. Maybe I am asking too much at $37,000 or best offer. But I thought that would be a fair price to start.
Should I try Ebay? Has anyone had any experience selling their Cobra on Ebay?
If so, should I try to write my own ad and sell it myself? Or, should I use one of the Classic Car brokers? They offer to weed out all the scammers and tire kickers, but they charge a commission.
Or, do you think in this economy I am just asking too much for my Cobra?
I know this is opening up a can of worms, but what do you think it is worth? Here is my Club Cobra ad:
PhotoPost Classifieds - 1967 real 427 Side Oiler Engined Unique Motorcars 427 Cobra - Powered by PhotoPost Classifieds
PhotoPost Classifieds - 1967 real 427 Side Oiler Engined Unique Motorcars 427 Cobra - Powered by PhotoPost Classifieds
If this link doesn't work, it is on page 2 and is a red Unique Motorcars 427 Cobra with a 1967 427 side oiler, dual carbs and a toploader.
Please no flammers, I am asking an honest question of worth, not opening up a debate on which kit is the best, etc.
Thank you for your help. The Club Cobra family is great!
Scott

Scott, I mentioned it in your ad and I'll say it again; you have a lovely looking car with the right bits for a reasonable price.
So that you might be able to attract some international interest, how old is the car and do you have documentation to support it? Unique chassis numbers seem all over the place so I can't tell the age of your car. If it's over 15yrs old, you'll have Canadians and some Europeans in the market. If its over 30 years and you have rock solid documentation to support it, you should shout it from the rooftops. Well maybe not Ebay's rooftop, maybe CobraCountry...!

Don't lower the price! List it on Cobra Country in the mid forties. It's too nice to go any lower.

Scott,
You need to dig deeper and elaborate more in regards to the cars description. It has always been my experience that the more detailed information you lay out for potential buyers, the better response you get to a for sale advertisement. Also, when it comes to taking pictures, less "artsy" angles and showing more of the car has always been more beneficial than the types of shots you currently have of the body in your clubcobra classified ad.
If you are going to list it on Ebay, take advantage of their offer to host 24 shots, use each and every one, as again, history shows that the more pictures, the better chance of finding a willing bidder.
Finally, I do suggest cobracountry as a viable selling place, my clients have had great success in both buying and selling there. Follow Curt's instructions on taking pictures.
Hope you find this helpful.
Good luck with your sale.
Bill S.

Your car looks priced right to me, I wouldn't lower it. As mrmustang states, put it on cobracountry with more straight forward pics and I don't think you'll have any trouble selling it. Cheers.

I sold my SPF in May of this year. I listed it first here and on the SPF site and received a few interested comments but no offers. I then listed it on Cobra Country, followed Curt's photo recommendations exactly and it sold in 5 days for my asking price. I think you have your car under priced for what it is, just MHO.
Good luck.

As I have stated in previous threads, I believe that whenever possible these cars should remain within the Cobra "Family" of folks that understand and respect them. Hence Cobra Country or this site first.
Just my 2c.

Cobra country is the best place to list and sell a cobra. That's what they do. Listed my Unique FIA there on Thanksgiving 2007 and had 3 contacts within 48 hours .. one of whom bought at list price.

Looks like it has everything going for it.
Color: Check
Engine: Check
Coated side pipes: Check
Disc brakes: Check.
The only thing that would keep me from buying it would be the lack of overdrive tranny like a Tremec, but that is subjective as not everyone would want a Tremec 5 speed.
I think its the economy for the most part. I would try to sell it on ebay as ebay reaches more people.
I tried for a year to sell my 65 Mustang restomod on Craigslist, until I got fed up with all of the custom bike guys wanting to trade.
Ended up trading it with a member here which is why I now have a Cobra, and still have four vintage Mustangs........

I have bought and sold several hobby cars and boats on eBay. I have found that eBay is a great place to expose your car for sale, but most likely the deal would get done outside of eBay.
I am in the market for a small block car and have been watching eBay daily (okay hourly) and have seen several nice Unique's get bid up to high teens or low 20's in the last year. Big blocks and pin drive wheels increase value of course. This is not the best time of year to be selling. I think cobra country would be a good place to list it.
