getting freaking wheel balancing weights to stick
what a pain- any tricks? I'm sure the trick is in the prep, but I'd like to get it right this time. I've had the wheels balanced a couple times, lasts a month or so, then back to that REALLY annoying shake right at highway cruising speed. I have the standard aluminum wheels, bolt on.

Clean the spot with lacquer thinner then tape them.

thanks gents, I will try all that- duct tape didnt work but gorilla is worth a try. along with a really good clean first.

Lacquer thinner, fine steel wool and cover with duct tape.

The Duct tape we get here now isn't worth carrying home. Everyone has gone to the Gorilla Tape and it really does stick and hold. The above suggestions about cleaning the wheels in those spots are very good as you can have a fine dust on there that you can't even see.

I have always a $20 tip handy for the guy who puts the tires on the rims. I ask him when the machine read out too much weight (big strip) to pop the tire and rotate the tire on the rim. Some times on small tires you don't need ant weight with that technique.
Anyhow, could you take a picture of the location of the weight?

Over many years of racing and street car/truck stuff, have never had a single issue with weights on aluminum or magnesium wheels---If you are, you are doing something very basic incorrect----------
incorrectly doing some very basic method----------

An old method I have found works every time:
(Note: not my idea but rather was shown the method by Graham Coaker at a Antrie club event in 1969 or 70.)
1. Clean with Acetone using a paper towel.
2. Lightly sand area with 200 grit wet or dry.
3. Clean area again with MEK using a fresh paper towel.
4. Apply new weight. (Check date of manufacture as the acrylic tape has a shelf life of about 1 year. After that the adhesive is pretty much junk.)
5. If you are paranoid about losing the weight, cover with Tesa Mylar acrylic adhesive film. (I think 3M makes the same thing in the States.)

Sounds like your tire company is not cleaning Wheel off prior to putting weights on.
