Use a mechanical oil pressure gauge to validate your dash gauge. Over hear in the states you can get a gauge and nylon feed tube in a kit for $20 usd

I have a mechanical oil pressure gauge, which is for my next Winter Project, so I connected it and it marks approx. 50 psi with cold engine and 40 psi idling with hot engine. So it shows the same values like my old electric pressure Sender. Accelerating the RPMs, it moves up to 60 psi.

But on the valve train the oil flow is still like a rivulet having its last drops. The oil comes through the pushrods to the rockerarm/fullcrum. But there is not enough oil, which reaches the rollertips.

Running on idle for a longer time the water temperature marks 180°F. The canton oil can easily be touched with the hand, that means the oil temperature must be about 40°F.

I try to understand, why the lifters do not pump enough oil to the valve train once the engine is started.
Watching the pictures and comparing the old and new lifters (GSP-3518-6), there is a difference on the oil band higth. Could this cause a problem regarding the compaotibility with the galley?

The engine, after the repair, has now a running time of about 30 minutes without driving and with RPM between 850 and 2000. It looks like the oil flow did increase a little bit on the valve train.

Maybe it is just an optical illusion???

The lifter do not pump oil. As the lifters move up in down in the bore oil flows through them. Your oil pressure looks great. As you are driving the atmosphere inside your valve covers is a mist of oil from the rocker arms flinging it everywhere. You are getting adequate lubrication.

Hi Madmaxx,
Thanks you for explaining!
Tomorrow I am going to fix the valve cover for a short test drive. Wonder how it will look when I take the valve cover off again and check it...

I drove her this morning - only 10 miles - no leaks and the valve train is wet of oil everywhere.

Oil pressure hot engine idling 850-900 RPM at 40 psi, accelerating it moves up to 60-70 PSI.
Vacuum at idling is 8 numbers, cruising about 15 numbers.
Spark pluggs are looking well. I have to change timing to 15° and advance to 33°.
Adjusting AFR at idling and prim./sec. jets -2 sizes.

The engine, between idling and approx. 2000 RPM, seems to run a little rough and after passing 2000 RPM the engine wakes up. A noticiable difference compared with the former circumstances.

All in all I am happy.
