Thanks BossCER,
I have looked at the pics of your Cobra with the Boss engine many times and still drool over it.It looks like it was meant to be in there.
That is my dream Cobra(what kit did you use),but I wouldn't mind having a beautiful little slabside with a proper 289 in it.After dealing with the Boss crowded engine compartment having some room to work would be a pleasure.

Dave,
I used a little known company out of Manteca, Ca. They basically built the car around the Boss motor. Cutting Edge is the name of the co. While they are still in business as a CNC machining co (DKW Machine) I believe they have stopped producing their Cobra chasis.
Again, good luck with the sale of your car.

Dave,

If you are thinking about a 289 car, you might consider an ERA FIA. ERA makes a beautiful FIA and they come up for sale from time to time.

They have also started making slab sides, but you decide to order a car … slab side, FIA or 427 ... it will take some time, but definitely with the wait.

Best of luck with the sale, that's one rare and beautiful Boss 429 !

You might have better luck selling your Mustang outright and using the proceeds to buy the Cobra you are looking for, IMHO. This will give you more time to look for just the right Cobra for you and the money in your pocket to buy immediately once you find it.

For the most part, AC Cobra guys aren't necessarily Mustang guys and trying to make a trade may limit your choices and market size.

As far as Cobras go, the Superformance slabsides are beautiful cars, but you will need to decide if you want a 427SC, 427 street, 289 FIA (wide hips somewhat like the 427), 289 slabside, 289 with leaf spring or coilover suspension, or some hybrid of the different styles. A 427 SC with a potent small block- 351W based stroker or the like, will be more than enough car to make you happy and give you the access you are looking for to work on it. Also, the 427 SC cars are more numerous so you'll have a larger market to choose from.

All my opinion, of course, but keep in mind that sometimes the shopping for a Cobra of any type is half the fun. Don't expect to get to test drive all of the Cobras you are interested in- I'm not sure I would let a prospective buyer test drive mine.....

Bob

Sure, your car even up for my ERA

I think you would be better served putting your car up on Ebay, or having Bill Collins broker it for you.

Bill's point is well given.

A specialized sale like a B9 happens often inside a close knit community. When a vendor who is known for selling "pedigreed" cars offers a
B9, most buyers will have no worries. If I take it on trade and offer it for sale it is coming from an "unknown" in the B9 community and it will not sell as fast or likely for as much.

The buyers and sellers of many of the rare, high dollar car types are actually a little "inbred" in that the cars rarely leave a small group of owners, they often just do a daisy chain.

Ok, just to clarify my trade considerations for the comedians on the forum.

In looking at the price of various SPF Cobras advertised on the internet it would take at least 4 of them plus cash to equal a trade for my car,
I just don't have that kind of garage space.
And,no offense but lets face it they are still replicas, very good ones but not the real deal.
If I wanted a "real Cobra"as in Shelby it would still take at least one continuation series plus cash for serious consideration.
My Boss 429 is "the real deal".
At this time the folks who keep records of Boss 429's in existence can only account for a fraction of the cars that were produced.
A total production in 69 and 70 of just 1359 cars which includes 2 Boss 429 Cougar race cars and 2 Quarter Horse race cars.
Of the total only 405 cars are registered.
Of the 93 Black cars ever made only 33 are accounted for.
I love all the Cobras but the only ones that will ever be "rare" will be the originals.Like the Boss 429

And to the astute observation that once a car is sold by the original owner it is no longer a one owner car I say"DUH"
Stop trying to put spin on my post and realize that the fact that it is currently a one owner car and that fact simply means it's history can be easily verified, unlike so many cars that have shady pasts and extensive restorations to bring them back to "concours"condition.Often with mismatched or reproduction parts.
As to any assessment from Steve Strange,I submit that based on the prices he wants for items on his website I might be better off disassembling the car and selling the pieces.
And,I have consulted with others in the business of brokering rare cars and they concur with the asking price.Just tallying the cost of misc stock parts that are included I come up with about 28K for them alone.
So,while you say my car sits stagnent on the market I'll just say I havn't had the right offer yet but one things for sure these cars are getting rarer every day and it will never be offered at any bargain basement price.

So,to any SPF owner or dealer who wants to make a serious offer,ie your car plus 200K I add the following:
No big block cars with "small"block engines would be considered.427,428 FE blocks only.
FIA or slabside cars 289 or 302 block based cars only.
To any dealer,I might consider a roller in trade.

Have a great day and Happy Motoring.

Kirkham Motorsports makes a very nice 289 car that should be considered also.

Thank you,
and I have considered a Kirkham as they are spectacular machines.
However, the issue is to have more cash available for other needs and still be able to have my Cobra.

However,if David Kirkham was interested in a Boss 429 and some sort of trade for one of his cars I would consider it.

Default Well good luck...

I have been collecting/selling/buying collector cars for many years and I have never been able to make a trade down from a more expensive auto to a less expensive one....

My 2 cents is that you will be very unlikely to find a trader that will have the car you want and will want your car at your price...even on the world wide internet that is too many variables to resolve. Not going to happen.

If you want to get this done, you should sell your car and pay cash for the car you want.... cash still talks.

Sometimes, when there is a thread like this, you just need to pop some popcorn and sit back with a cold one reading as it unravels.
