Single or Dual Roll Bars
Why do most go with the single roll bar?
Seems like the dual would provide more protection especially if you had a passenger?

I would go with personal preference on that one. Seems to be a touchy subject! There is a VERY long tread on just that if you search for it. A good read and some useful info. End of the day its up to you. What you want and what you want to do with your car. And like Forest Gump said "that is all I have to say about that.

I'll gladly stay out of this mess...
To be more helpful-there are a million threads on this in the search.

The original cars that had roll bars were all designed for racing and had no passengers. If they were racing with passengers, there would have been either two bars or one long one.
Personally, I find the natural symmetry of two bars more appealing than one. It's like the difference between fine RayBans and a monocle. You see? Here's a shot of my car with but one roll bar....

Original cars were race cars so only had one for the driver. Note that not a single car had shoulder harnesses on the passenger side since if you have support you are the roll bar. It is sincerely doubtful your head and shoulders (as a passenger) can support the passenger side of the car. So if you have a regular passenger, and want to have shoulder harnesses, put a roll bar on the passenger side. Or use one of the long bars which is not as sturdy but better than nothing.

In your opinion. We all have them. Symmetry?? Cars with 2 bars look stupid, cars with one long one look stupid. The correct look is one roll bar. You bought the car for the "look", and all that goes with it,,,, don't chinse it up.
Besides, having 2 tells the world that a"girly man " owns it !

If you ever want to take your Cobra to a track and have a coach sit next to you, you will need two roll bars. I did the NASA track and with no racing experience was required to have a coach until I was good enough to drive by myself. I rented a Caddy and spent Saturday on the track with the coach. He said I was good enough to drive my Cobra after the first day. The second day I spent on the track by myself in my Cobra. Since the Cobra drives COMPLETELY different than the Caddy (the Caddy being much easier!), I would have liked to have my coach sitting next to me telling me how to drive. My suggestion is if you would like to track your Cobra at all, get two roll bars. My next Cobra will have two roll bars.....Wait, who ever said I'm getting another Cobra?????

Seems to me a good compromise would be to just put one roll bar , in the middle, between the seats.**)

You are much safer on the street without a roll bar.

He or she may be shy.
As mentioned above, there are numerous threads about this subject and I think in each instance, someone questions the masculinity and/or virility of another. I think Post #6 may have taken over 1st place for quickest in CC history.

I second WardL's comment. And add to it, I've had to run a Class below what the car (And my skill) would allow because I could not pass tech with only a 3 point roll bar. Most events will count two roll bars as a six point. I am adding a second roll bar this spring so I do not have issues this year driving in what ever class the car and I can handle.

Here is a link to a long thread from just about 2 years ago, if you have not seen it yet …

As you can tell, it’s a topic of a great deal of discussion. Bottom line, it’s your Cobra, build it the way you want it. :)

Pretty obvious for the man that doesn't have to prove anything - the benefits of 2 rollbars outweigh 1 for the reasons stated. These cars are replicas, how many actually hold true to all components of a 60's cobra? - not a one.

After reading this ridiculousness my 1st thought was too bad there isn't a jackass screen to prevent potential cobra owners from buying.

I stuck with 1 because I liked the look.
Unfortunately, I am finding that many "track day" events require both do to mandatory instruction before letting the cars rip. :o
