And like every other Porsche I have ever owned, I will be damned if it didn't start appreciating..... they are worth considerably more than the 996 and climbing ....

Porsche 993's (1995-1998) are the LAST and BEST! :)

The 2nd gen Viper is the only other car that I was interested in come to purchase a new fun car. I think it comes pretty close, dollar for dollar! An awesome car, holds price well, a memorable one (especially a 96/97 GTS in blue/white), almost as much of a go kart, and lots of ohhhhs and ahhhhs.

I forgot about the Viper. You're right. Even 3rd Gen is priced in that $60K range.

M@

The original AC Bristol Shelby converted into the Cobra was Brit. But the power, guts, performance and almost everything that made the AC Cobra the dream car of most of the worlds sports car lovers is American! :p Your welcome to any ride that turns your crank! I've been in; driven, and owned more than a few of the rides you most likely covet! For me, since I was 14; starting with csx 2058, csx 2372 and csx 3116 there has & is only one ultimate ride. The AC Cobra! I notice your new to the site. Welcome! If you've never spent any real time in a original csx or a exacting replica? You might want to consider something a little more comfortable. Like a vette, their fast & squishy soft! Or mabe, or, or ??? Good luck in your search! :)
Remember M8's

 SEX IS ONLY TEMPORARY!

 FOR EVERLASTING PLEASURE DRIVE A COBRA

Buddyg is right on. As he defined what he wanted for his money, the Cobra is a good choice.

The original is now a collectable and may be well worth the money. A historic and iconic automobile and a legend.

There is little doubt that there are replicas that by any measure are better performers than the originals.

If you want attention they will get it, people just love them.

I certainly enjoy mine, but I drive it at times and places where there is no one to notice it or me.

But if you define a ultimate ride as a high performance car that can brake and accelerate and handle and reach and sustain high speeds, there are dozens of production cars for the same money (including some American cars) that can go around Nurburgring much faster.

It is what it is.

I do my own oil change, about $100 every 15000 miles.

As for the OP statement I say, to have a Cobra in the collection is priceless

Used Plymouth Prowler @ $30K would suit me just fine as a toned down alternative to a cobra replica, and they are appreciating.

Not only are they British, they are derived from an earlier Ferrari.

Yes Insurance for a Porsche is comparable. I have the oil changed every year. I just put gas in them and drive them, I don't even wash them.

We have a wash and detail outfit here called the " Naked Coeds, we will do it at your house "....... they only charge $300 bucks to wash your car and some my neighbors are willing to chip in.

Damn I hate a dirty car and I want to help young girls go to college.

Yep, ask yourself where the real engineering was on those early originals -
Brits: chassis, suspension, brakes & body
Yanks: ford crate motor :LOL::LOL::LOL::LOL:

I love my Cobra, nothing else like it. But, I have thought about trading it for a Porsche 996tt. My wife would be more likely to use it on date night and she likes to drive too.

Justin, if you are thinking about a Porsche and you don't need a back seat to torture your children, take a look at a Cayman.

They are about half the cost to buy and maintain and have a torque curve so flat you can actually use them in city traffic and they really really handle.

My kid calls them the " everyday" or " working man's " Porsche and even females can drive them without stalling them and burning out the clutch.
If you stall a 911 at a traffic light, to restart it, you have to jump up and down on one leg and rub your belly and pat your head to defeat the f'ing security computer.

The Cayman also has mega storage for all the stuff she has to have to go more than 100 miles from home.

I have never driven one, but Porsche is proud as hell of their auto, in fact, they have some new models that you can't get a manual.

mikew 02-15-2014 10:16 AM

I agree. This has been one of the best investements that I have made as far as the fun factor is concerned. Hard to beat!

The DSG trans is awesome with the paddle shifters, nothing can shift as fast, but I need a manual trans just something about me doing the work, that's why the 911 is the ultimate driving sportscar...

Not nearly as good looking as a Cobra and definitely not as fast.
