P/s steering or manual

My car has p/s on it now but I'm thinking it would be better to go with manual what do u guys have and think ?

Fat radial tires + heavy front end + parallel parking or weak upper body = PS.
Normal tires + cruising speed + typical driver = MS.

Manual steering gives better road feel and feedback through the wheel.
Personally I don't like power steering (or power brakes for that matter) in cars like this.

I have manual now on my Cobra and another car, and I like it. I may not in 15 years. But if you have PS already and it works well, I wouldn't change it.

The PS was the first thing I removed from my car when i first got it in '94. Granted, it was a crappy installation, but I didn't like the feel and PS WILL leak, eventually. I'm thinking I'll use my ability to crank the wheel, at slow speed, as my indicator that its time to give up the ghost and quit driving my car.

Since you asked - another vote for manual. My ERA's steering is actually pretty light - much lighter than my 66 manual Corvette. However, the ERA does have slightly smallish tires on the front

Same here. I had manual steering in mine when I raced it and with the street tires on it I had no problems parking it or turning it into short places. I like the feel of manual over power also.

I am a Engineer (or enginerd)... I really really believe in the KISS principle....

Keep it simple stupid. I am so pleased that my SPF is so simple and trouble free because of that. I do not like modern cars.

Others may have a different opinion, but I avoid any complexity I can in a car...because as my dad always said..."the fewer things there are, the fewer things there are to go wrong"...he was a Engineer.

I originally built my car with PS. Later, I changed it to manual. I like manual a LOT better.

I have only driven cobras with manual steering, and so I may be biased, but my preference is manual.

I've had numerous Cobra owners as well as non-Cobra owners drive my car that has KRC power steering over the past six and a half years and none have said they got a better feel with manual steering and or they liked manual steering better. I agree with them......and it hasn't leaked in nearly 40K miles.
Just my opinion based on my personal experiences.

I wish I had PS for the autocross I do. Even though I'm an old fart (61) I have good upper body strength and it is really hard to turn the wheel unless the car is rolling. It is really unfair to take an opinion unless you have tried it with and without. The guys that had it removed and didn't put it back on is pretty good testimony. Your decision does depend on what kind of driving you do, etc. Still, I would like to try it. Take your PS off and send it to me and I'll try it out! ha ha ha

I think the no p/s seems to be the better vote i have plenty of upper strenth and i just dont like the idea of a possible failure as im running it around the track i think that could be catostrophic so i will try to figure out waht rack i have and replace it with a manual thanks for all the info guys.

I think I'll add one more vote for manual but as WardL commented if you plan to do a lot of auto crossing power steering would be a benefit. For long track road racing or track days, or even drag racing and street use I prefer manual.

Your profile says you have a Contemporary. My early torsion bar Contemporary has incredibly light manual steering, so I can't imagine ever needing P/S.
