How is your car titled and registered?
At the risk of getting slapped by Jamo, I'm going to pose a question:
What kind of Cobra/Cobra replica/Cobra fake/etc. do you have and how is it titled and registered in your state?
Let's just provide a simple answer and stay away from the arguments.
I own a Shelby Cobra CSX600 series. The Virginia title says it is a 1965 Shelby Cobra replica. The registration says 1965 Shelby Cobra. All as required by Virginia replica law.

My 2009 SPF is titled and registered as a 2009 SPCNS (specialty constructed) vehicle.
In California, if you attempt to register your replica as the year it replicates (say 1965) your car can be impounded and you can be charged with fraud if caught.
Reason: California bases it's registration fees on the year of production. Newer models pay substantially higher fees than older models.
It's always about the money in California.

My Superformance is titled in Ontario as a 2002 SUPE (make) KIT (model). Vehicles titled as KIT are exempt from provincial Drive Clean testing. Also, it has a Ministry-assigned, 17-digit VIN.
This is the "proper" way according to provincial regulations, although sometimes I wish it were titled as a "1965 SUPE KIT" which might help avoid problems with the infamous MOE Smog Patrol. There is such a thing...

My Shell Valley is registered in WA as "1966 Shelby AC Cobra". They passed a new emissions exemption law about 2 years ago (no more emissions, no more licensing fees) and I was one of the early ones. They seemed confused and told me the "law" was unclear and I could register it how I wanted (I didn't tell them but laws are there exactly for the reason of keeping people like me from doing what we want.).

My ERA is titled as a 1965 Ford Cobra. The tag office was supposed to include "(replica)" after that according to their own printed instructions - but they failed to do so on the title. I was able to pay $17.95 for a lifetime "Antique Car" tag. Arkansas is relatively stress free on car registrations.

In central Texas: "1965 Ford Roadster" with regular registration, annual regular license renewals, and annual state safety inspections (no emissions inspections required for this part of Texas, although I do have a PCV valve as on the original 49-state 1965 Ford FE V8s). VIN is simply "ERA 766."
Just like a regular car--I wanted it that way instead of opting for antique plates (or original year plates as on my MGs). I may go with personalized plates (still with regular registration) at some point in the future.

Well done so far...keeping to the facts per the request of the threadstarter.
I pity the fool who deviates from this.

1965 Cobra
I have a question that might require input from NED. How many 427 Cobras were ever registered with any DMV as 1965's? I believe all the SC's were all sold in 1966 or later and know that Dick Smiths Cobra was registered as a 1966. Weren't all the early 3000 cars sold as race cars and not registered?
