Default My Dyno results

Had BDR #1230 on the chassis dyno yesterday:

Car built by Jay's team at Vintage/Engine built by Brent Lykins:

eng dyno-(Stuska)/chassis dyno-(Mustang) @ Fonse Performance here in South Jersey...results:

662FHP/513WHP
578LB/470LB

I did not rev the motor to peak RPM (per the eng dyno) on the Chassis dyno as I was operating the car and was little freaked out to be honest so it had more but I wasn't really chasing a # but seeking the best tune so I just kept the limiter at 6600-sorry Brent

Yep-If I would have pressed it a little more we would have been just under 20% I suspect.

Nice numbers! What is the setup? 6600 for that sbf is a nice rpm to get to in a streetable car. There are lots of variables, but the Mustang dyno's usually read about 10% lower than the dynojet.

Also, was the engine dyno with accessories and air filter?

Any planned trips to ATCO so that we can at least some trap speeds? Let me know if you go, I'm in as long as I can find time.

itstock-the engine actually peaked and around 7000 on the eng dyno but I didnt push it that high on the chassis dyno. The chassis dyno had the air cleaner on and the hood closed-the air cleaner was worth 15 HP believe it or not. Engine is a 445CI with a dry sump and belt driven cam/elec water pump so not much to spin besides the alt.

Heads/intake/carb/cam? That's some nice RPM. If I did it again, I'd probably do a higher revving engine.

I think I lost 20rwhp with the air filter on, but I have the turkey pan so it's the small filter.

Oh and I am no 1/4 mile guy-I would embarrass myself I do plan to head to Millville however and give it a go on the track there. I am really happy with the Nitto 555r DR's, they really hook well so I would think with a real driver the car would do pretty well, we put the good shafts from the drive shaft shop in it along with solid diff/subframe mounts so I would love to see it go down the 1/4 mi track.

Gary,

What was the engine dyno HP at 6600? Just to get a good calibration of installation and drivetrain % losses at the same condition. Thanks

This was an inertia dyno-If you prescribe to the 10% loss versus a loading dyno I suppose the # would be higher but I was looking to maximize the performance not get the fattest HP# I could. Though now Im getting a tad vain and wondering if I should have gone down the road to the other guy

Gary,

First, where were my manners? I should have started off by saying what a Rocket your car is going to be with that powerplant! Impressive power and I bet it sings out the pipes!

Now, I thank you for providing the data. I have no agenda other than seeing what the real experience is and it is so seldom we get an opportunity to compare engine versus wheel HP without a bunch of confounding conditions and I will stipulate the density altitude was likely different between the tests, but still... This is good stuff and thank you.

Don't let Gary fool U. He is just waiting for some naive unsuspecting FE owner to challenge him.

No worries itbites! That is why I posted the info...the best part of the process is that I drove home from the dyno shop in what felt like a different car. So much easier to drive down low and really dialed in. Makes me wonder how many guys would benefit from the same process and may think their cars are as good as they can get when, possibly, they are not. And to your point, it may be best to get a shop in your area in order to best replicate the conditions the car will see every day. Good stuff...

WOW! Gary, congratulations on building a tremendous engine. Makes me think I should leave "the dark side" and get me a SBF. Pretty sure I'd have to save up a pile of sheckles but with numbers like you have, might be worthwhile.

Thx guys...I built nothing however, I'm just in the tweaking phase!!! Vintage and Brent did all the work. Ill post some video once my new gopro mount comes in-I couldnt unstick the other one from my boat windsheild without tearing off the double face tape that is apparently some space age high tack stuff...wow. Thinking about clamping it to the roll bar but the wind will be pretty bad sound wise, I think I saw Jay use a remote mic???
