Default Tire Info & Advise

I'm getting ready to replace the tires on my Cobra and I'm looking for info. I understand Michelin PS2's are supposed to be the best but they are expensive. After researching, I see Nitto's come highly recommended by many.
Is there really that much difference between the two? Does one out perform the other significantly? I don't track my car or drive is hard (too much) or in the rain so I'm looking for tires for overall good response and traction.
Hopefully, someone out there has had both and can give me their 2 cents worth although all imput is welcome. Thanks

For what size wheel?
Lots of opinion probably but I'd say the best tire is an Avon for a 15" wheel.

I'd have to agree with that, although they don't quite match the Goodyear billboards for looks.

Too modern for my knowledge. Maybe someone else has some input.

Take a look at Nitto's either NT05's or NT555R2

The CR's are somewhat size limited in the rear unless some modifications are done. 275/40-17 is going to be about it. 285's fill out the wheel well better but are harder to find. I see you have a KC engine so you have ample power. I'd look for something in the 200 tread wear range. That should still last a few years considering how many miles these cars actually are driven.

While I am happy with my NT05's, it sounds like you could get a harder compound tire with the driving that you do for longevity.

Pete, don't the Avons say "AVON" in big letters on the sidewall?
The comp tires do but I wasn't sure about street legal tires.

No, they don't unfortunately. I wish they did.

I'm sorry Pete, but they just don't look quite right in my view. The lettering is too big and too white. Maybe if they were scuffed a little.

The scuffing comes with time...the picture above was the first ride out. The car had about 30 miles in it, now with 400 they looking better and better...

Do you tell people that they are real goodyears?

I think they look great btw. What is the tread wear rating on them?

This right here is one of the bestest lines during a thread conversation in the past few months.

Hi Greg
we recommend NT555ZR tires to Cobra owners that require a high performance road tire at a great price and we have nothing but positive feedback.

Absolutely not. Some of the guys wondering about the raised lettering and look very close and figure it out they are not the cheaper GY's.

On all sizes of the CR6ZZ the thread wear is 80. Traction A, Temperature B, the only street legal competition tire with that side wall height.

The lettering looks better and better....

I really do like the way they look, that was not a tongue in cheek comment.

But the tread wear of 80 should completely rule them out for OP. I didn't know they were that low, but being a comp tire helps to understand why (the NT01 is 100 if I recall correctly, while the NT05 is 200).

Well, having cheap tires and a little to much throttle (cost more)....

Better (or your wording we will say more expensive) tires almost certainly would NOT have helped either of those situations.
