Default How much air cleaner to hood clearance is enough?

I installed K&E filters (thank you Yugo) in my S&H air cleaners on my FE dual quad set up and measured my clearances with modeling clay. I have a bit over 3/8 inch clearance from the top of the acorn nut to the hood underside on the rear air cleaner. I can change out the acorn nuts for common nuts if I have to.

I think 3/8 inch should be safe - I also have my driver side motor mount through bolted. Haven't started the motor yet. Anyone have issues with underside hood contact with around 3/8 inch nomimal clearance??

Thanks

You can get a nice stainless nut and grind it down thinner, and you can then get away with 1/4" or a bit less clearance to allow for movement. I've tried it all.

Lippy - so it sounds like 3/8 inch should be pretty safe? There are always a few variables. I guess I'll watch it closely and change to a SS nut if I see any sign of contact.

Thanks

Get a Kwik-Latch if you can make it work. We have been selling these as part of the MAXX Air 9" Low Profile air cleaner package through Nick at Acton Custom.

The latches themselves are available here:

Quik-Latch Billet Air Cleaner Housing Mini Latch Part # QL-25-AC

Hey, those are really cool.
I'm going to pick up a couple of those.

More than enough. You can get away with less if you need to. And those Quick Latches look cool also.
