Default Engine Removal

Here's one for you mechanics and do it yourself guys.

About How many hours should it take an experienced mechanic and a well equipped shop to R&R a small block ford engine in an SPF cobra?

The reason I ask is I am going to have to pay a shop to R&R my engine and I have gotten estimates anywhere from 4 to 25 hours. And since I'm paying shop rates, I want to better arm myself before I try to negotiate with them.
I figure you guys have pulled more cobra engines than Carroll Shelby ever did.

It took me about 5 hours to install a fresh FE in my cobra with a bunch of friends. But then I had to spend a few more hours getting the trans and clutch ready to go, priming the oil pump, getting the timing in the right ballpark, adding fluids, etc. So say 8 hours total for a new install, and maybe 5 to remove an installed engine. And I'm no pro.

Starting with draining the radiator, it takes me about 4 hours to pull the engine and get it on the stand. In my garage, by myself, with a harbor freight crane and mostly hand tools.

You could probably save them some time by prepping the car a little - removing hood and transmission tunnel before taking it in. With open accessibility they should reasonably have it out in 2 or 3 hours I would think To remove, prep and replace I think 8 hours is not unreasonable - but that might be a little tight for all the final adjustments and getting it up and running and in tune depending on if they run into any problems. I will go with 8 to 10 hours.

Yes REMOVE the "Bonnet" and insist they use fender covers on both fenders and around the entire engine bay. This is non negotiable!!

Mine was slow overall but I would guess 3-4hrs installed.
Probably the same on the re-install

Wiring is limited
Mounts are easy
Headers
Radiator fuel delivery
Bellhousing

That's about it......

Thanks, I thought about 8-10 hours from pulling to reinstalling and setting up should be sufficient. Now to head to the shop and negotiate a price.
