Question about SOHC history.

Actually Shelby was planning on putting in a 427 SOHC in a Daytona Coupe (CSX2286) for the 1964 LeMans race. Ford was delayed in getting the Cammer engine to Shelby, and so got him an aluminum 390 with 58 mm Webers instead. The 390 engine was put into the car, before the project was shelved. CSX2286 did race at LeMans in 1965 with a 289 engine.

I did not know about the cammer for the Daytona coupe. One thing that I did come across in the Holman Moody book is that they did test a cammer in a GT40 for Daytona but since it was not faster than a pushrod FE they did not go the cammer route. I have never seen a picture of it as I wonder how they dealt with all the fitment issues.
