I'm not sure how close you want to be to originality vs. functionality but you might want consider bringing your collector towards the rear of the master cylinder assy.. Now, you will have to bring your exhaust under your frame tubing. To do this you will need exhaust tubing to transition under the frame. Spin Tech Exhaust has a lot of different tubing for hot rodders on their web site that can do this.

I have posted headers that Bryans Racing made for my slab side for reference but I think you can make period correct work for your project using transition piping from Spin Tech and running it under the frame. Nascar cup cars use the same tubing so it won't restrict exhaust flow.

You will have to move your outer exhaust (along side of car) back further.

I Googled fia cobra images and found some cars that looked good with the pipes moved rearward. I advise you to check out these pictures.

This should give you acceptable clearance for street use. I hope my post gives you another point of view.
