Default VIR Cobra flip

I hadn't seen this video before. Anyone know the circumstances/specifics? I was surprised the Cobra rolled so easy. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sYRN70r7Zrc]VIR Cobra Flip - YouTube[/ame]

It looked as if the tires caught on something when he spun out and that flipped it. We had that happen here at our track a few years ago and when the guy spun out, the tires caught as he was going sideways and off into the desert, but it was much worse than that. Completely destroyed the Cobra and almost killed the driver. He was never able to drive again. They will flip pretty fast under the right conditions.

The initial skid is so abrupt, it makes me think oil on the track or something broke.

Old movie of "Katerine" flipping Lee's Cobra. Car survived.

What I saw is he didn't rev match well under hard braking, locked up the rear wheels and spun. That particular turn at VIR you brake very late at the end of the straight and there is a slight kink. That can unsettle the car a bit.

Tall, sticky, pillow tires combined with the suspension / ride height took that car over.

Human error caused it, the specifics of his car setup finished it.

JMHO.

Yeah, I was looking to see if I saw brake lights but I can't tell from the video. You could be right.

I think the brake lights came on, but a little late.

Trying too hard.

But it rolled over because of the steering lock while going backwards, should have straightened the wheel up.
