Default Got my hands on a MGA MkII - any owners out here on CC?

I took the opportunity and got a MGA MkII, I came across that project, took some pictures and my wife liked the car right away.
That will be a - sort off - his and hers driving with two cars in the same color and time period to car shows and gatherings.

Just wondering if someone else have that combo Cobra/MGA?

BTW: It is a Coupe and it will have A/C

I had a '72 B....

Sold it last year after rescuing it in 1993 from returning back to its basic elements.

Points to you if you fit it with dunlops and some roundals like this one...

That windscreen won't work on a coupe!

I used to have a MK II many years ago. Wooden floors and all..............

I've come close a few times over the years, they're very nice little cars. For the last few years I've been pursueing an older guy with a well sorted twincam that he does not drive at all....we'll see.

I was looking at an awesome MGA Coupe but after a drive found it is really a back roads only car. It is not possible to sustain 70 for trips which kinda bummed me out....

Anyone have this issue?

I had a 57 A, Got it when I was 15 and drove it till 19. Wish I had it back, some good and not so good memories. I redid the engine, bored with a little bigger cam, kept the twin SU carbs. Great car, drove and abused it as a boy that age can. Would cruise all day long at 70. Speaking of the wooden floor boards, had mine catch on fire one day coming home from school, smoke then flames coming up between my legs, quickly pulled over and started throwing dirt in on the floor to put it out, too much oil-grease on the underside. Cruising down the freeway one day hood came unlatched, flew up bent over the windscreen and bashed me on the head, almost knocked me out. Even hand cranked it to start it for a while when I couldn’t afford batteries for it. Cornered pretty well as long as you kept the shocks full of oil.

I have a 1962 sitting in the corner of my hanger that needs a total restoration. I have always loved them, I have owned a bunch of mgb's that is why I couldnt not buy it. I doubt I will ever have the time to restore it but who knows................................M

Probably one of the best sources of info is the MGExperience MGA forum: MGA Forum : MG Experience Forums : The MG Experience And why not surprise your wife on Valentine's Day with a nice cutaway illustration of her new car: MGA Coupe Limited Edition Cutaway Print | Plan B Illustrations

And if you want to put a motor with more power in it, check out the MGA section here: MGB V8 and V6 Photo Gallery - plus MG Midget, MGA, MGC, RV8 and ZT sports cars.

Doesn't look too bad in the pictures but they lie!

The first MK II I worked on was a high school friend that he bought for $100 in 1969 (from a guy who is now a friend and an SPF MK III owner) and it was a "little" rusty. We replaced the rockers with sheet metal screws as we didn't have a welder and used about 15 pounds of filler on a quarter when we couldn't bump it out enough. A quick BRG spray and off we went. We thought it would be a chick magnet, but two guys looking for two girls in a car that seats two (three if one will ride on the passenger lap...that offers all sorts of possibilities!) did not work as hoped.

Handling "improvement" was by adding heavier weight oil to the shocks. The engine got the "by ear" tune up and a new carpet set went in and away we went!

Allen, hehe no roundels I know where you Rick and try to lead me...

Silverback, I thing I start on this full restoration March/April. By that time visit my picture website MGA Project and enjoy the build. Hopefully it get you up and save one of these buggers.

Rick, no bigger motor. This one stays original. The power plant rotates, it was just not started in 4 years. The car will be completely disassembled and restored to factory specs.
Great link to the prints, I ordered one already - thanks!

Oh yeah, bailing wire, duct tape and bondo on this one too. I have press brakes, shears and welders to my disposal, so the metal part is not the problem.

I like your little story about the $100 car, two boys try to rob some kisses......
