Look for an L88 base that was used on Corvettes , Chevelles etc back in the late 60`s . Repops are made today . That base is one of the best flowing bases available .... has just under a 2" drop and will fit a Holley 4150 with a few minor modifications ( cut off the PCV tube , plug it and some minor trimming ) . IMO , much better than the K&N base .
Tried 5 different drop bases on mine and didn`t find any that worked as well as the L88 base . I`m running that with a spun aluminum lid and air director I made with a 3" one layer/pass K&N element .... what they call their racing element . Has very little delta P across it . Those factory guys back in the late 60`s really did know what they were doing .... GM put tons of money making those engines run , take advantage of their research .
Also , do a search on Speedtalk on lids and bases .... there is a ton of info from serious engine builders over there on this subject .

Bobcat - where might I find the L88 base you suggest, as well as spun aluminum lid?

L88 Base:
[ame="http://www.amazon.com/1966-1972-Corvette-Air-Cleaner-Base/dp/B000FTNDTG"]Amazon.com: 1966-1972 Corvette Air Cleaner Base 396 427 L88 LT1: Automotive@@AMEPARAM@@http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41eTt9b1CFL.@@AMEPARAM@@41eTt9b1CFL[/ame]
Corvette America - Online Catalog

Lid:
- Aluminum - Pretty much everywhere - any hot rod shop, many auto parts stores, Summit Racing, Jeg's, etc.
- You may want to consider a K&N xStream top as well, as pointed out by mdross1.
