Default Which Optima Battery--REd or Yellow?

Hi folks:
My Red Optima battery is due to be changed after 4 years it is saying good bye, this winter in NY was murder despite the battery tender. I have been reading a lot but I am still unsure. I am opting (no pun intended) for the yellow model. Any thoughts out there?
Tks

When my red top gave out after a dozen years of service, I upgraded to a yellow top.

My Yellow top Optima lasted 14 yrs. with regular Battery Tender use. I just replaced it with a Sears Platinum AGM (made by Odyssey). I understand newer Optima's are inferior and therefore don't expect such long life.

Installed a new Red Top a couple years back after 8-yrs of excellent service on the previous Red Top. I too have heard the new Optima batteries are not as good as they once were, plus the price has almost doubled.

Sorry, not enough time on the new Red or knowledge of the Yellow to make a recommendation.

My redtop also just died after 14 years. Not sure what I am going to replace it with.

I have heard that the new Optimas are now made in Mexico...go figure. I swear by the SEARS Die Hard batteries all my SUV had them and are good for at least 5 years. I am considering the Optima Yellow top now due to it being deep cycle as the marine batteries. Will let you all know what happens. Tks all for the diligent input!
Cheers

I had a red top that lasted 12 years and am now using a yellow top that has about 5 years on it. I use a battery tender also. The best batter I had was an Interstate that lasted 14 years, but I won't use a water filled type in the Cobra as I don't want to take a chance on it busting or something. If this Yellow Top lasts 8/10 years I will be happy.

I went through that decision about 6 months ago. After a little research, I bought a Bosch Platinum Series battery. I got the small one with only 450 cranking amps. It's about half the weight of the type 34 Optima red top. It's much smaller too with the plates arranged flat instead of spiraled. In California we don't have to worry about cold weather starting problems. In a colder climate, I would have bought a bigger one.

It has been working great in spite of the 4 HID rally lights and all the rally computers in the car. I keep the battery tender on it when it's not on the road except when I am out of town. We ran a rally to Las Vegas last September and it sat outside the hotel with the 2-way alarm system running all night. Started fine.

Hey Ron:
Nice to hear from you man!!, How are you doing, tks for the input. I just got the Cobra inspected today and the battery (red top ) is done, I have to order a yellow top from Jegs. I don't like the idea of water either.
Regards
Lou
