Default New to the forums 96 cobra gears?

I bought a 96 cobra about a week ago and was wondering what ring and pinion I should go with. 3.55 or 3.73 what are the advantages and disadvantages of both. I drive it a lot as well.

tell us more about the motor and trannie. Tire size will play a part also.
When picking gear you need to consider the motor, trannie and tires as a whole package.
How much of your driving is at 60 to 70 mph?
Will the motor (cam) let you cruise in high gear at your chosen speed?

for me the 3.55 are good cruising gears and 3.73 for quick acceleration from the red light

maybe this site will help

Like Dwight said, the motor, transmission, tires and wheel size are going to make a difference. Also what you want the car to do. I have 3:56 gears in my Coupe but they cut the top speed down. My NASCAR Cobra has 3:91s and it accelerates very well up to just over 100 MPH but the top end is low. I had 3:27 gears in one Cobra replica but could never use 5th gear as I had a racing engine and it wouldn't run at the RPM in 5th gear to keep the engine going well. So it all amounts to all of the above and what you want to do with the car.

96Cobra,
Is your car a Mustang or a replica of a 60s era Shelby Cobra? If its a Mustang, you may get better results on a different forum.

Well, the 3.55 is 0.18 less than the 3.73. Advantage over the 3.73 is about 0.18.
