Why is the OP leaning towards a BDR in the first place?

Welcome to the forum, you are new here! If Patrick made the statement everyone should get an ERA with no more than 450 hp because it is a little known secret that you can't use more than 450 hp (according to him).

The OP owes it to himself to investigate the other half dozen quality makers. Some of which will, of course, cost more. In the end, he may go back to BDR, or he may not. But until he puts his "toe in the water" he won't know for sure and he could be avoiding a big heartache.

Hey tnc110, dont let these lads confuse you...
There is nothing wrong with a BDR, they're great package, value for money hard to beat, new modern parts, definitely an improvement technology wise on a CSX cobra.

The answer that question lies in what YOU want from your cobra.
If you enjoy the build process - then a FFR is probably better than a BDR,
If you want to track/race it then a BDR is probably not as good as a JBL, but better than a Kirkham (and I'm NOT suggesting Kirkhams cant be tracked, Morris tracks his successfully, but I couldn't get past the thought of binning an Alu body...).
Its all going to depend on YOUR personal preference, and what you rank more important to YOU.
If you just want a big a$$ed engine in a cobra to go in straight lines - try a Weineck... PS: how's your German and bank balance? You might need ample levels of both...

Dimis, you're wasting your breath.
I believe I spotted the OP at the Chevrolet dealership buying a Corvette.

That is a big negative!!!
I'm set on a Cobra. All the new stuff is out dated in a few years and leaves the buyer wanting to update. No thanks. I love fast and loud, the Cobra is both for sure. I've been in love with cobras for a long time, and am finally at a place in my life where I can afford one. Unfortunately I am building a house and barn this year, so the Cobra is on hold at least until the barn is done. BUT, this is probably a good thing, gives me time to pick your brains!!! I glad to have the time to do a lot of research and pick the car that is exactly what I want and not have any regrets down the road.
I'm actually in the process of converting my motorcycle into a Cobra theme bike. I have a guy building me some custom fiberglass pieces as we speak.

There is nothing like the look and rumble of an FE, and they are getting scarce. Very few quality vintage FE blocks still available. A 390 is more affordable than a 427 or 428 and can be built to perform very well, and as other have stated, it is difficult to tell a 390 from a 428 or 427 without a lot of work.
An FE gives you all the low end torque that you will need and reality is, most of the time that you are going to want some power to pass some Sunday driver will occur in the 2,000-3,000 rpm range. On an FE that is where your torque is going to be, HP does not even begin to start hitting significant levels until the 4,000 rpm and up range. There is no hesitation with my FE at lower rpms when I want to pull out and get by someone.

NOW that's more like it... Where on earth have you been?
Good to have the real Patrick back.

If it were me, in a BDR - I'd slap a coyote in it, and then if I was happy with power and wanted aesthetics - Id slap an 8 stack intake on it, else if I wanted more power, a supercharger is fitting.
So that would make it a REAL S/C Sorry, I couldn't resist.
