Don't read too much into the legislation that you refer to. It requires the seller to install a modern (new) emissions compliant power train. The market for such a configuration in the US seems to be fairly limited for the Cobra market where most people prefer a period correct type of power train, ie, big block original or small block old style. Furthermore, the only engine that is on the list (as of today) is the Chevrolet LS3; no Ford product is qualified yet, although you can't imagine a Coyote is too far away. Factory Five will probably sell all the 32 Fords they are allowed to make.

Hmm, at Real1's asking price, the buyer is buying the cobra story, not the car. Good Luck With Story.

I'll take the counterpoint to your post.
The President of the Manhattan Nissan Leaf Owners Association may actually have a point.
If I may interpret his comment...
I think what he's trying to say is that anyone paying $230,000 for Evan's CSX4206 is likely buying into the fact that he or she will own an original, genuine, authentic, Shelby Cobra made by Carroll Shelby and Shelby American. If a buyer isn't "buying the story" and just likes or has heard the Shelby name before, thus a "Kirkham with a plaque" would suffice, then they would or should pay the typical alloy CSX selling price of $150,000-$200,000. Say like Vern's alloy CSX4227.

I was sorry to see Evan go as well. He's a stubborn and opinionated SOB, but then again so are most of my friends. Away from Cobra arguments he seems to be a pretty gracious and good humored fellow. His inability or unwillingness to simply say "whatever", walk away, smile and let people think what they want about his car both fascinated and amused me over the years. He's a passionate gearhead like most of us here and I wish him well, though deep down I somehow hope he ends up keeping his amazing (Shelby ) Cobra.

I'll tell you what...if I ever had the need for a headstrong, stubborn and tenacious attorney, Evan would be on my list!

Absolutely - I was involved in a big federal construction claim and 3-week trial in Washington a few years ago (I was on the Fed side) and we had a Justice Dept attorney trying the case who I nicknamed My Cousin Vinney (but only behind his back). He was the most aggressive, hard-nosed, tell-you-what-he-was-thinking, testosterone loaded attorney I could imagine. I kept asking myself how did the Justice Dept manage to hire him and where did they find him - he was the complete opposite of what you would expect of most Government attorneys. He even got pissed off at his co-counsels line of questioning one day who was questioning a witness on the stand, starting a big argument between the two in the middle of court, resulting in the Judge calling the trial for a while. The Bonding Co. attorneys were just sitting there - like what's going on here? He was so aggressive that when the Judge handed down the decision (about 90% for the Government) he protested part of the decision and more or less got in the Judges face, telling her where her facts and findings were wrong and forcing her to back down and revise the opinion (upping it to about 95% in favor of the Gov't).
From what little I know of Evan, I think he could be related to My Cousin Vinney at the Justice Dept. But, its good to have him on your side.

Dan,
You just described a big part of my life. I have been in big construction industry for 40 years, but I'm on the other side as the contractor fighting the agencies and bonding companies on claims etc.
Yes, my best lawyer is a little Italian gal from NYC that is a total pit bull. I mean brutal! I have seen her tear up a room of lawyers that just left everyone speechless.
I have a feeling Evan is of the same cloth if he wants to be!

Yes, I've spent 40 years in the Corps on construction management so I'm usually on the other side - although I've been summoned to court a time or two for a dispute between a contractor and sub. I did develop quite an appreciation for the hard licks and risks a contractor takes - especially on competitive Gov't contracts. I tried to did my best to see if we couldn't come to some agreement on issues that would keep both of us solvent and out of court - but a few times we just couldn't get there. In this case the contractor was a big outfit that went bankrupt during the middle of the job - a potential buy out fell through - and the bonding company picked it up and hired another party to finish it. But, the job was in too big of a hole by then and there just wasn't any getting out of it without trying to come after the Government. I'll tell you - I almost preferred being deposed and cross examined by opposing counsel than being prepared for court by Cousin Vinney. Some of us were about ready to defect to the other side. Those east coast lawyers are tough.

Damn, that car is stunning. I love it. Every detail is awesome. Clean black cars are a definite weak spot for me. I really appreciate them and when an owner knows how to properly detail (a very rare ability) them I salute their efforts. I don't know if this car and owner is in that category as all I have to go on is a few photos. The photos do show the car very well. They are nicely done, indeed.
