289 FIA Hood Scoop
I don't post often, although I'm here probably a minimum of twice a day. I'm building a FFR car using a Mr. Bruce 289 FIA body. Yeah, I jumped the gun by about 18 months before they offered the 289. Anyhow, I'm into body work, and I'm trying to duplicate the metal insert in the hood scoop, and I'm not having much success. The hole pattern is obviously on a varying centerline, and the spacing between, and the size of the holes is stumping me. I was hoping that someone may have a pattern, or be able to direct me to where I could find a pattern to create this piece. I figured that this forum would have a deeper knowledge base on the 289 FIA since it's been discussed here more than at FFR's forums.

I have one, off the car because I want the scoop open. I am willing to trace it onto a piece of paper and mail it to you. It is from an ERA so it may or may not match the scoop you have, but I expect that ERA duplicated the original hole design accurately. I don't want to sell the actual piece.

Just an FYI
There is really no wrong way to do the holes as the individual crew members assigned to any particular car were tasked with getting the job done and not necessarily to any particular set of design or drawings.

Pete, that would be awesome. I'll PM my address. CompClassics, I thought that may be the case. I just wanted the pattern to look good. Was trying to copy a 7000 series scoop insert, but couldn't get the spacing and size correct. Thanks again guys. I appreciate the help.

OK, last night, on my tablet, I tried to post thanks to PeteF for taking the time to provide me with the info that I needed, and for whatever reason, it failed to show up in the thread. I had the same thing happen the day before with a PM that I had sent to him. Both messages showed on my screen when I posted them so I don't know what happened.
Anyway, Pete I wanted to thank you for helping me on this.
"13", I just pulled the body off the car to bond the front to the rear, so all I have is the roller, without the engine which will be here in a few weeks. I had to pull a bunch of the interior aluminum to start fitting the body, since they don't fit the FIA shape. It's kind of a mess right now. Once I start to get things back together I'll try to post some pictures.
Again thanks for all the help.

I patterned the opening with cardboard then drilled holes similar to 2000 car in alloy.
Figured it was as close as any original. As John said, all depended on who did drilling.

I did similar to 2085 as I don't run filters on Webers.

2345 is again different and the only original FIA car as all the others were restored

Great photos Jeff. Also, couldn't help but notice the above 289's aren't running the same diameter tires F/R! ... I'm joking, of course

It's my understanding the actual purpose of the insert is to reduce air turbulence over the Webers which can cause issues at higher speeds.

Not sure however I use it to reduce rocks under hood.
Without it rocks can be an issue.

The ERA part is attached with four 1/4 inch bolts along the bottom.
