Well you know the factory puts that Tru-Coat on and I can't do anything about it.....

Well, deduct about $40.00 for the whitewalls (Geez, I NEVER thought I would be selling cars with WHITEWALLS again...but seems about 50% of the 289s got shoved out of Shelby with his Goodyear whitewalls!) And the wheels are close to a wash price wise. Lets call it even.

Bill, can you also ask him about the cost to change to black carpets and seats? :D

Did folks back in the 60s look at the slabside as "a Miata?" corvette stingrays and Jag E Type 1 had longer hoods and aggressive looks. Did American buyers like the Slabside shape?
Looks like a chick car, then and now

rodneym 03-18-2016 11:12 AM

Well, NYG, you're not going to make many more friends here with a comment like that. %/
But to your point, the slabside is a bit too British for my taste. There seems to be a bit of a backlash recently with the 427 shape but to me, that voluptuous/muscular shape is the "be all, end all" with sports cars. I don't tire from it nor fault it in any way.

Consider the source. NYG owns a Nissan Leaf. On a scale of masculinity, the needle wouldn't move for owners of Nissan Leafs.

For me, the 427 represents the evolution of Shelby's work. The finished product. But throw some kidney bean wheels and performance tires on there, lower the stance and I'd own a slabside.

in fact the cobra IS a british sports car (with an american engine ;)) and the 1953 tojeiro-design is the iconographic archetype of any sportscar

it is now as cool as 63 years ago,

for me the 2.0-design of the 2,6 ace rudspeed is the best,
unfortunately bigger wheels could not be mounted so the slabside wheelarches were invented, imho a great step back in the clearness and simlicity of the design,
all other design experiments for bigger and much bigger wheelarches mostly failed imho, respective the great differences between front and rear,
exception eg csx 2001 and some mild race versions

the 427 design solved that problem but turned the early elegance into a muscle-appearance

those who think the 427 is more elegant must see the early design is for chicks ;)

I was thinking "Tan", maybe even ordering one in "Laguna Blue" with proper knock off wheels ;)

I really like Laguna Blue & Tan. The red/tan combo, not so much. :)

Rick's website shows a silver/black 289 slab coming to shore soon and the 1 pic of that car looked very nice.

My car is gonna be Princess Blue with black leather!

The Hailbrand Kidney Bean wheels are six pin drive and you still have the splines so you can swap out the pins for bolts and run the wires. Best of both worlds.................

Dangerous Doug 03-18-2016 12:49 PM

Princess Blue is the same color Shelby referred to as "Viking Blue", correct?

"Viking Blue" doesn't upset my masculine sensibilities.

What about an FYI style rollbar like Bill Collins car?

Mark IV 03-18-2016 02:23 PM

Yup. Can do.

We can "Mix 'n Match" options between the street roadster and the FIA/USRRC models. FIA hood scoop? No problem. Race dash? Sure!

Actually they are slightly different. Princess Blue was the color AC had in their color palette. "Viking Blue" became a color when Shelby had the colors switched to Ford US colors.

And I am comfortable enough in my manliness to drive "Princess Blue".......:D

Maybe you could point me to a book where I could learn more about the history of the Cobra.

BTW, did you know my Kirkham is listed in a book?

Looks like a 1960's version of the Miata to me.
