Please don't feed the trolls

It is apparent that some forum members respond very strongly to other members some might consider as trolls. The thing to remember about trolls is that they are nourished by the anger and venom they provoke. Responding to their provocative comments gives them the attention they seek, even if it is intended in a very negative way. ... So if you get some benefit from giving a person you dislike the very thing he wants, keep on feeding the trolls.

If you don't want to engage with and feed your trolls, simply ignore them. Now I know some of us find that hard to do, so the forum has provided a very handy tool to help out. You can select members whose posts will not appear when you visit ClubCobra.com. This is called the IGNORE function. Here's a link describing it and how to use it: Link

My hope is that the trolls who are ignored will find this forum less interesting and go elsewhere to stir up trouble. If not, then maybe most of us here are trolls in one way or another.

jhv48 03-27-2016 08:34 AM

I totally agree. However, someone had to take Evan's place.

DanEC 03-27-2016 08:49 AM

I'm sorry for my small part - I was trying to be direct and measured in my responses. Some days are harder than others - to just let the sh!t go by.

joyridin' 03-27-2016 09:20 AM

If it weren't for the occasional troll, this place would be boring as heck. Look at the post about Keith Craft. 3/4 of the replies are at one single individual and his response.

It's what makes these sites fun.

Joe's Garage 03-27-2016 10:45 AM

Agree, it's ENTERTAINMENT! If you can't stand the heat get out of the kitchen.
We're in a new era now, in Japan it's the "Year of the Monkey". In the U.S. it's the "Year of the Troll" ... just look at the two top GOP candidates

Given that NewYorkGuy appears to be on CC for the sole purpose of 'stirring things up', I found his posts were just getting in the way, taking up my time, and adding no value - classic troll.

I added NYG to my 'ignore' list a few weeks ago and haven't missed his drivel one little bit.

YMMV

twobjshelbys 03-27-2016 11:33 AM

Trolls are like rattle snakes on a trail. If you ignore them and walk on by they will sleep in the sun where people will occasionally notice them but eventually get tired and go find another place to stay. Don't kick one and they will move on.

The stuff going on in Keith Craft topic is nothing but mean spirited bullying and has no business here except to draw attention to the troll's name.

Joe's Garage is on my ignore list too, and since he posted here I figured I'd look to see what value he is adding. Leave it to a troll to claim that their value add is entertainment. Back to the ignore list.

Perhaps I'm contributing to trolldom myself... Earlier I commented on the "Real1" continuation blog because I kept seeing more and more about what is obviously an attempt to keep the Troll King alive. There is no content but endless speculation. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. And more anger. Huh? What for?! who cares? The trolls I'm guessing. Well, there you go. Blocking will definitely increase the value of this site for yours truly.

Bernica 03-27-2016 01:21 PM

I have always appreciated this site and tried to respect it.

Starting what I think is going to be a constructive thread and watching it go down the drain can sometimes be frustrating, sometimes amusing...

I have now come to the point that I look at what looks like an interesting and constructive thread that starts well. Then I check some of the posts and ask myself "do I really want to reply and be sucked into this thread?"

There will be a few that I block. Just gets tiresome after a while...

Ah, Evan's bestis grab-ass buddy chimes in. I'm on iggy so he won't answer me, but I was wondering why that silly naif has CSX4005LA in his sig still,
he sold that car years ago

Tommy 03-27-2016 02:03 PM

If anyone were interested in applying the advice I offered, now might be a good time to try it.

funny. if u look at the Evan's tribute thread, the real trolls are the 1 or 2 or 3 members who post over 300x, make every thread into their own pissing contest.

Thanks Tommy. I've always wondered how to use that feature and never took the time to investigate it. Used it today and I must say it is wonderful. I normally don't allow myself to get sucked into those threads but sometimes I am better at stepping back than others. This is a great feature.

Thx again,

Ed

Used it twice today so far. I am all for us cleaning up this site together and ignoring the pests that just pollute.

But there are 15 people that replied to his post with more comments, and then he posted again. Obviously a lot of people like his comments regardless of how they are taken.

I do not reply to them because I really don't care what he says. I would assume the others that do not care what he has to say wouldn't reply either, but there sure are a lot of replies to his posts!

Kobura 03-27-2016 03:49 PM

This is good. A thread that the "anti-trolls" can feed on to create toxic comments about perceived trolls.

Exactly, Tommy summed it up best at the end of his post -

I was wondering why you weren't responding not to my posts. :p
