On what car and what year?

There are many stripes and many opinions.

289, 289FIA, early 427, 427 comp, 427 S/C and later models.....

I have a PDF file with the stripe layout, at least for maybe ERA and CSX. Unfortunately, this site nor Photobucket will let me send it. Send me a PM and I will get it to you. And no, they are not straight. They are tapered to follow the body lines. PDF has all the dimensions.

Whatever you do - keep the width the same - front to rear.

Never saw an original car with odd stripes...the classic stripes are 6 inch 1 inch space and 6 inch.

The only tapered stripes belongs to this model below....

I think the original stripes on 3002 were tapered.

Only in the front Larry. (on the restored car)

They made many mistakes on the CSX3002, from the quick jacks facing the wrong way to the side racing number location. That car is not a very good example of a historical correct vehicle.
Gorgeous car however.

Virtually every current Cobra is a terrible example of how they were built in the beginning. So many things have been changed by both owners and every mechanic who worked on the car throughout it's life, that only a very few are time capsules. Most restorers don't know the details either. I'm not any sort of expert on coil spring cars, so I'm not going to say that all the striped Cobra 427's had tapered stripes but judge for yourself on 3002 back then.
I can't say the rear was or was not though.
Larry

No, don't - unless of course you really want to.

That diagram is from ERA's site and judging by their knowledge, experience and the quality of their products, I'd be inclined to stick with their recommendations. Besides, straight, non-tapered stripes on the curvaceous Cobra body look awful by comparison.

Older discussion here: Tapered Stripes?

Thanks for all the input guys.
Are there companies that sell the tapered stripes?

I may be wrong, but I think Finishline used to sell a stripe kit to fit FFR's at one time, however by far the majority of stripes are painted on. Because of the Cobra's compound curves and the hood scoop, it's very difficult to successfully apply vinyl stripes.

Tapered for sure. Visually, you don't notice the taper and it allows the stripes to follow all the compound curves of the body IMHO.
And visually without the taper you definitely would notice.
Checking in with someone like McCluskey should clear it up for you.
