Comparison to Ferrari
One would think it would be saved for the grandchildren, isn't there one named Aaron who has made some public appearances? To me, nothing couilf be more impressive for the brand than to have the youngest grandkid driving Granpop's old car at an event like Monterey.
On the other hand perhaps there is no better time--with a possibility of fetching $5 from $10 million? Ironically, I don't think it will be a blast to drive like that twin Paxton 427 that sold for over 5 million. There was two of those made, one killed its owner. Shel himself said it was a blast to drive "when it wasn't on fire."
Who is the beneficiary of this sale? The Foundation? Mrs. Carroll Shelby?
Isn't this the car with inboard rear discs, the one finished at Dean Moon's shop?
They should put a sign on the windscreen "One Owner car."
It's not true Ferrari doesn't make replicas. When they decided to show an early barchetta, they didn't want to buy a real one so they had the students at the Ferrari technical Institute build one. But they have resisted to date the temptation to go back and make a few more of oldies but goodies which Jaguar is shamelessly doing, first with the Lightwight E-type and now the XKSS.
Jag will tempt Mercedes to make more 300SLRs or gullwing 300SLs and soon at auctions, you won't be able to tell what's real and what is a factory replica

And that's one reason why those two vintage Ferrari's sold for $35MM+.

I can see this car being hawked as all original (how many different colors of paint ), one owner, that owner being CS being a highly valuable benefit. Do I see 35M+, most likely not, do I see the realm of 5-15M, absolutely, as there are several deep pocketed, big ticket buyers out there who collect Shelby products. I suspect the Shelby Museum in Boulder being in the running, as this would be the cherry on their collections cake (so to speak), a true one of a kind automobile of significant historic importance.

Only two colors. The multi color weekly change is a Shelby legend. It was presented in bare aluminum, then painted yellow and finally the blue it is now. See about the 10 minute mark.

I agree. I originally said $5-10MM for CSX2000's value. CSX2601 sold for $7.25MM, the highest price for a Shelby product yet (I think). But I believe Jeff had the opinion that CSX2000 will sell for MORE than the two Ferrari's and I was disagreeing with that valuation.

At $52 million for a private sale Ferrari GTO, I don't think the record is in danger of being broken.

This car will be sold to a collector with very deep pockets - most likely someone who has enough wealth that they don't care whether it costs $10 million or $50 million. It's a rare piece of art that happens to be an automobile - kind of like the Mona Lisa happens to be a painting. The purchaser will likely be more interested in having the bragging rights to it than the pride of owning the actual car.
Only time will tell, but it will certainly be interesting to watch.

I'm waiting for the 1st nimnuts to ask "What shade of blue is that and what's the color code?," because he or she wants to paint their replica that color.

Looking for guys like Larry Ellison to bid on this one, just so he can say he now has it.

I'd prefer to see Larry Ellison, Mark Cuban, Leno, Jerry Seinfeld, or one of the other uber-rich American car collectors bring the best bid, rather than seeing it end up on a boat headed for central Europe, or the UAE...

Agreed. It needs to stay right here in the USA!

Good safe number. It all depends on who is in the room, right?

There can be multiple answers. The mileage is 100007 and the trip odometer is 777.
Or the trip odometer was being sent back to zero and when you do that, the numbers combine like 666, 777, 888, 999, and finally 000.
