I wonder what spawned the decision to sell it? I'm guessing 25-28 million.

The tour at SAI says CS turned down 26M years ago. We'll see if that buyer comes forward. As much as I wish it would set a record like that, I don't see it getting close. $10-12M is my guess.
Interesting that with the Barrett Jackson linkage it isn't going there.

Wow... Interesting number.
We need to start a pool on the sell price to see can get the closest

The pool is already running.
As to the comparison to CSX2601, the Coupe was certainly rich in history, but this one is richer. The Coupe had an established racing history. CSX2000 was always a photo opportunity and driver car. It has a personal connection to CS which I think offsets the racing history of 2601. That said, 2601 was a while ago, and I think have an original unmolested (and heavily repainted) Cobra makes it worth a little more (even adjusted for inflation, and the Brexit will have been forgotten by then).
Remember the Supersnake Cobra sold for 5.5M to Ron Pratte who sold it for 5.1M.
I just don't see 20M+ happening. What are the non-Cobra comps? Have there been any other significant cars go for that price?
And alot can happen between now and then..

The two Ferraris.
1962 GTO for $38MM at Monterey 2014
1957 355 for $36MM this year.

It's definitely going to sell for alot of money, no doubt about it, but I'd also add that Shelby only made 6 Coupes and they built 655 (?) small block Cobras.

Hold on there. It's not a Ferrari.
Daytona Coupe CSX2601 sold for $7.25 MM.
Monterey 2009: Shelby Daytona Coupe sells for record $7.25 million - Autoblog
I'd guess somewhere around $5 MM minimum and 10 MM max.
