SBF one piece rear main seal orientation
Need to install it. Which side is in, which is out?

The open side with the spring side goes toward engine.

Thanks. Tried it and ruined the seal. Bought 4 more just because I like to spend money needlessly and because I hate this build more than anything else.

Solid side faces out.
Do yourself a favor and drop the pan and rear main cap. Those seals hardly ever go in the way they ought and you'll damage them trying to drive them in.

It also depends on whether it's a factory block designed for a 1 piece or a block that's been machined for the upgrade. There's at least one shop who has problems with tolerances. |

Maybe one of you guys can answer this. Did Ford change the oil pans for the one piece rear seal? Can an old pan bolt on to a late block?

I don't know and it's probably past Brent's bed time! You could go to Summit and look up after market pans. That would probably tell you if there's a difference.

I tried looking at pans but they are listed by year/configuration for specific vehicles.
I'm trying to figure out if an original Cobra cast aluminum pan will fit a later block.
