Any Original Orange Cobras?

Hi everyone.

So I like the color orange. And am considering painting my cobra in that color. But, like all colors it comes in so many shades and variants, its hard to pick just the right one.

So I was wondering if any of the original cobras got delivered in orange. I have tried to find this out but to no avail. Some have suggested orange was an available color option, but I have not seen a pic of an original in that color.

So can anyone help? I thought I might try the best and brightest in here to see if I have any more luck. Ideally an image, or a link to an image, of some form of original street or racing cobra in orange would be ideal.

Many thanks

I believe CSX3050 was orange. I am sure you can find some images if you Google it.

Rangoon Red was an original color, and has quite a bit of orange in it, especially in direct sunlight.

You shouldn't be a slave to an original color unless you have an original car. Choose a color that you like, and that you can potentially live with, for the next 25 years.

There is one in the Cobra Experience museum in Martinez, Ca. I don't know the CSX number, but I'm sure someone here will come up with it. You can see it here in a photo on their website:

There's an orange swatch in post #35, but it's from a group with an 'AC Cars Limited' tag on it - and could well be from a period after the Shelby cars were produced.

Ted,
I was trying to get a picture of that one. It's an FIA car--definitely not original color, but an original car. Not sure if it's the same as above--if it is, it has a very different paint job. The Cobra Experience calendar had a picture of the front from the asphalt showing the stripes across the brake vents. Very racy!

There's a member here on CC who's father has one in original condition in his garage in Texas. The son posted pics of it, and I think I saw a post from him recently. Can't remember his name or screen name on CC, possibly used the csx #.
Let the searching begin !

AC,
I visited the Cobra Experience museum about three years ago and that car was there. I'm sure it had a plaque next to it explaining the history, but of course, I don't remember any of it. It was a pretty car and certainly not a color you see on a Cobra every day. If you get on CE's website, there are several photos on their home page that have that car in them, but none of them are really good shots.

Thank you everyone for your replies - it has been very helpful. It seems the CSX3050 was originally painted for Gulf Oil? So is it Gulf Oil Orange?

The swatch of colours shown in the other thread (thx cycleguy) does not name the colours, but its still good to see.

Thx again, I really appreciate it. I will now hunt down as many pix of CSX2409 and CSX3050 as I can!

Dimis 12-13-2017 12:32 AM

Just pick the orange you like best!

Speaking with the Aussie GULF OIL importer at motorclassica even their orange has been subject to “colour drift” that has led to many discussions as to which orange is the orange.

Best wishes and enjoy.
Should look sweet in orange!

MOTORHEAD 12-13-2017 05:14 AM

yup, that's the one I was thinking of, 3050, one of the original S/C's.
From the registry:
"accounting COST": $10998.29
Invoiced to "Dub Richardson Ford" Oklahoma City,OK, for $7395.00.

Fair point - but the more I look at the pix of 3050, the more I like it!
