It is homemade. Aluminum bar stock from Home Depot, $500k of tools from Harbor Freight and 3 months of off/on tinkering under a tree.

Tilt steering, I didnt like the location and angle of the standard steering wheel/column. Now I can put it exactly where I need it. Also the radio, I have heard many say theirs is useless and they cant hear it but mine cranks. When I want to just enjoy the sound of the car I dont put it on and when I want to hear some ripping driving tunes I use the ipod. I also had the radio wired up so I can use it when the car is off, that modification comes in handy when I stop up at the airport and sit and watch the planes land. WINTER SUCKS!!

Over 32 years, I have changed many things. The best thing was adding gussets to the Jaguar lower suspension arms so they would not try to kill me again.
Next, was going from a high RPM drag racing cam to a milder hydraulic roller that make much more low and mid range torque. Other than that: Backup electric fuel pump. Comfortable seats from Classic Cobra. Tremec TKO 5 speed trans. 3.73 gears in the Jaguar rear with limited slip. Wilwood brakes all around. A security system that communicates with my cell phone and tells me the car's status and exactly where it is. Acrylic polyurethane paint (Ferrari red). Front suspension by Classic Conversions. Micky Thompson Sportsman S/T tires. AFR Cylinder heads. Classic Chambered mufflers. Distributorless EDIS ignition from '90's Ford with Megaspark controller. RS |
Fuel Pump

I'd like to do this, but mount permanently. I'm carbureted and run a basic inline electric fuel pump close to the tank. Can two be wired in series with a DPDT toggle to go between the two if needed? I know some MG's have done this. My need for permanent is that i won't have access for a swap out if i'm on the side of the road. I believe the pumps have basic check valves that allow the disabled pump to be a "pass through". Anyone have a best practice that can be shared? Seems like cheap insurance. Thanks! |
One of these was by far the best non-traditional / non-authentic modification to my Cobra;

Rawkkrawler,
Yes that's correct, both pumps are connected at the IN side and OUT side with brass "T" fittings. I am using Carter fuel pumps. Last time one failed, my son and I were coming home from Houston and in the middle of Nowhere, West Texas. We were doing about 80 on the Interstate. When it quit the engine dies and I said, "the fuel pump quit." My son says, "what are we going to do?" And I said, "push this button." I did and we cruised the rest of the 1,100 miles without a problem. That was about the 5th time one failed. When I first wired the two pumps, I had one running or both running when I pushed the switch. Later, on a rally near Bakersfield, the car bucked to a stop with gas spraying out the top of the carburetor. After trying everything I could think of on the carb, I started thinking about the fuel pumps. I realized that the internal pressure regulator in one of the pumps had failed and I was getting too much pressure. So, I reached up under the car and pulled a wire off pump number 1. Then, everything worked fine and we finished the rally. I was very unhappy about missing a checkpoint and losing the rally. So, I installed a pressure regulator before the carb. I also changed the wiring so that one pump or the other runs, not both. I also installed a pressure gauge and a NOS pressure switch before the carb. The NOS switch triggers a very bright light on the dash when pressure drops below 4 psi. Then, I installed the biggest fuel filter I could find between the tank and the fuel pumps. Now, the system is very reliable. The light lets me know there is a problem before the car stalls. The gauge helps troubleshoot problems. Last time the light came on, I realized that the filter was clogged. I was able to get home by swerving the car back and forth to move the crud around. It's amazing how much sand comes out of gas station pumps! I am about to replace all of this with an EFI system. It will also have two pumps and pressure gauge and light. I will sell all of the low pressure stuff on eBay. |

Like another member did, I made some extensions (out of plastic tubing) to extend the wing mounted rear view mirrors, also replaced the flat glass with mild convex wide angle mirrors. I'm going do a second fuel pump, and back up coil. Both have failed or overheated in the past.
